reminder to visit museums, even if you feel out of place. you feel out of place because there is an established concept of inaccessibility of "high culture" to the masses, purposefully developed to distinguish between social classes.

take up space, read the plaques, get the audioguides. you are just as entitled and right in being there. visit museums, boycott museums, be expressive about your opinions about museums.

a lot of museums are free, or discounted for youth and students. take advantage of that. check your local art museum. check your local history museum. museums are there for you, they are there to educate the public, not to distinguish between class. it isn't a private collection, it's a public exhibit.

errand & organising day!

spent a few hours setting up my notion for readings etc and packing for G's birthday weekend in San Sebastián. i'm not big on the whole using ai for everything but chatgpt gave me a crash course on setting up relations between dashboards on notion, so i've been able to create this entire ecosystem of readings -> notes -> concepts -> IRL case studies and i think it is actually going to change my life

Reintroduction?

I had a weird tumblr urge the other day and logged in to see where I left off and as I am starting my masters degree in the autumn I think it's time for a comeback! So hello! It's so nice to see some old faces still around and doing well, and the community still going on!! I'm Ellie, 32 and in London. I completed my undergrad degree in classical studies part time, whilst working full time as a mature student, and now i am starting a masters degree in Museum & Gallery Studies as an even more mature student!!

When I left this blog I had just been redundant from my long term (9 years!!) job in event management and completely fell into a role in the ultra-luxury fashion industry which was very intense, and I scraped my way to a Head of Department role within 3 years. But! After almost 4 years of having no time for myself, no social life and being a poster child for burnout I had like a moment of remembering all of the hopes and dreams I once held (lol) and decided it was time to explore those again.

I was VERY lucky that my company allowed me to negotiate to go part time and I applied and got accepted into my programme and now here I am!

Hello!! Wow it has really been a minute huh. In February I started a new job in fashion and I feel very Andy Sachs and my boss is very Miranda Priestly and I have had to ask for an extension on nearly every single essay I have submitted this year because I just have no time or brain power or anything really haha #jokingitsnotthatdirebutalsoyesitisthatdire and also this past lockdown in London really Got To Me but things are opening back up and the sun has been shining and I don’t feel so bad anymore! 

But hello!! I have missed tumblr and my drafts is full of posts I have started and never finished but I am finally seeing a light at the end of the tunnel! My boss has just hired us a joint PA! I only have two essays left of the year!!! I hope everyone is well and coping xxxx

i can not and i mean i can not stress this enough… make a bibliography as you do your research. i mean, make a fully formed, correctly cited bibliography as you work. just do it. i know i know you’re being lazy or you hate making citations or you’ll just get to it later or you don’t want to get distracted etc etc etc

whatever your reasons just make the fuckin bibliography

and while im at it… put the footnotes in properly as you are writing. just… do it. for future you. please. for your sanity. do it.
