how to deal with burnouts
if youâve never experienced a burnout, youâre lucky. Â last year, these was a period of time when i went through a burnout, and truly, honestly - it was terrible and i hope to never feel as tired and hopeless as i did then. Â looking back on the last school year, iâve made some changes to my lifestyle and habits in an effort to lower my chances of burning out, and i wanted to share them, so that you know you are not alone. Â itâs a long post, since iâm really passionate about this, so buckle up your seat belts or save it for when you need.
IF YOU:Â
feel constantly tired and defeated
are getting less and less sleep each night
cry in frustration while doing your school work
feel like youâre just acting happy for the ones you love
start to not care
feel like youâre physically getting sick
donât feel like yourself
then youâre probably in the middle or about to be in the middle of a burnout
note: to me, a burnout is not simply a loss of motivation or a piling on of stress.  a complete burnout is the feeling that you donât want to try anymore and you are physically, as well as mentally, ready to give up.

Hi, I hope you're having a nice day ^^ I'm sorry to bother you but a friend of mine asked me for help with her university application and I thought about you. She's going to study animal biology in the UK and she needs to write a personal statement (1 or 2 pages) about her personality, past achievements and future aspirations. Can you help us and give some ideas please? I love your blog, it's great when I need motivation. I'm also using your wallpapers, they're so beautiful ^^ Thank you â¤ď¸
Hey! No bother at all :-) I didnât have to write one for uni (I feel very lucky hah!) so Iâll link you to a few things:

Today Iâm focusing on Chinese vocabulary, Iâm rewriting the entire vocabulary lists of the ćąčŻć°´ĺšłččŻ, translated as the Chinese Proficiency Test (it is Chinaâs only standardized test of Standard Chinese language proficiency for non-native speakers such as foreign students and overseas Chinese) Level 1 being the easiest and level 6 the hardest. I personally have the HSK 4 and Iâm studying for level 5! Re-writing all of the lists allows me to revise the Chinese vocabulary I might have forgotten how to write and simply boost my self confidence, because studying all the Chinese characters and remember how to write and pronounce them is a challenge! Have a nice productive Sunday guys!

The Day Before Results Day and Different Kinds of Self-Care
Iâm stressed and nervous and terrified and if I were granted one single wish now, it would be to skip forward until midday tomorrow so it would all be over with in a blink. Iâm just saying this now because itâs perfectly natural to be stressed, and itâs good to be aware of stress and not discount it. After all, there is a lot riding on what happens tomorrow, and itâs perfectly natural to worry about it.
This post is going to be a bit different from the other Results Day wind-up posts, because itâs also going to tackle different kinds of self-care in relation to your studying (which you can use more generally), but if you follow the natural progression of these steps, it might help you get through today, because by tomorrow itâs going to be all over, but you need to get through today.
1) The Long-Term Self-Care (useful for the morning and afternoon)
This is the kind of stuff I was talking about in my Month Before Results Day post: itâs the exercising, eating balanced meals, taking care of your mind and your body, planning ahead. Itâs green smoothies and early mornings and drinking water and itâs fantastic for your daily living, especially when youâre under intense mental and physical stress. If youâre like me and you have a holiday job, then youâll be at least distracted. If you donât have one or are lucky enough not to need one, then pick out elements of this type of self-care over the course of your day: go for a hike with your family, or go for a run on your own, or do something that gets you on your feet and doing things. Even if you donât like exercising, at least it will help you sleep better.
2) Self-Care in Distraction (useful for a couple of hours in the day)
As I said, itâs good to have a job to engage and distract you, but there are plenty of other kinds of distractions. This self-care is getting lost in a new book (or an old favourite), going shopping with friends, going to see a movie, binge-watching a series on Netflix or YouTube or wherever, or learning to play or sing something new. It could be exercise, but it doesnât have to be. Spend a couple of hours today doing something you really love that you havenât done in a while. Itâs a means of taking care of yourself by removing yourself from the stress, even for a little bit.
3) Self-Care in Self-Indulgence
Sometimes, itâs hard to tell the difference between self-care and indulgence or vanity. On days like this, itâs perfectly fine to treat yourself. This self-care is ordering a pizza with your favourite toppings and extra cheese, binge-watching (as a distraction but also as a treat), making yourself a hot chocolate with marshmallows, buying new socks, or new makeup, or something you really want. Itâs all about spoiling yourself, and whilst this isnât a normal practise for day-to-day self-care, itâs a way of making yourself feel special and important. Because you are. Donât be consumed by your stress. You are not defined by what comes. You define the situation for yourself. You deserve to be spoiled.
4) The Relaxed Evening Self-Care
This is having a long bath with a bath bomb and a face mask, having a cup of loose-leaf tea, meditating, praying (if you are so inclined), curling up under blankets and watching things on Netflix that donât require too much concentration (even if youâre not a huge fan of romcoms I would recommend them on this occasion). This kind of self-care is about calming down, finding balance and relaxation, getting yourself into a situation where you will be able to sleep better. If you think it will help, try a natural melatonin supplement to help you sleep (non-prescription and non-addictive). Take deep breaths. Watch the sun go down. Do some yoga/stretch whatever feels tight. Unclench your jaw; relax your shoulders; breathe out.
 Youâve got this.
As someone who has a mental countdown to results day going on in her head; I widely recommend this! Honestly I couldnât have gotten it at a much better time, and figured there are people who follow me that need it!
âYou know what amazes me? Women have access to guns every day and despite the way we are treated by society, by bosses, by men who claim to love us, we are not sending people bombs nor shooting up schools or churches with AR15s. Take a lesson, men, and work on yourselves, not us.â

âOn Sitting With Fearâ
âWomen live a life of sustained fear. Which is not to say that most women exist in a state of heightened anxiety at all times, but is to acknowledge the reality that our lives are fundamentally different from menâs because of a real threat of rape/violence at the hands of men, mostly men we know. (And because we are stupidly and wrongly tasked with its prevention.) Menâs and womenâs lives are very different in that way.â
