“You look like you’re about to pass out.”
“No I’m not,” Cass said in the most nasally voice possible. It was crystal clear that she was as sick as a dog, but she was entirely too stubborn to admit to it.
She was deathly pale, but her nose was gleaming a bright shade of red.
“I feel…fine,” she managed to get out in between fits of sneezing and sniffling.
“Thanks, luv,” Cass said still shivering. She then threw the blankets off of her like they were trying to eat her alive.
“What the hell, now it feels like my blood is boiling.” Cass never really got sick, but when when she did, she might as well have had the Black Plague. At least, that was what it felt like to her.
It took almost an hour before Viper was back with the soup. “Sorry it took so long. Made it from near scratch,” she said, presenting it almost proudly.
"It's not a problem, I appreciate the gesture, luv," Cass said with genuine gratitude in her sickly voice. She never let anyone take care of her when she was sick, but that's because she usually convinced them she wasn't in the first place.
Cass slurped down the soup, not caring that it was entirely too hot.
"This is really good," she wheezed out between sneezing and eating, "would you happen to have any orange juice?"

Cassie gave a sarcastic chuckle and her trembling fingertips stuttered their way through her hair, “You were going to tell me? When the fuck were you possibly going to tell me?” Her voice became more harsh with each word that left her lips. There was a melting pot of emotions swirling through her and she just couldn’t concentrate long enough to pick one and stick with it. “Scratch that, how long has this shit been going on?”
Although Marcella had repeated the explanation to herself a million times as some sort of preparation, the same words seemed to either have FROZEN before reaching her throat. “I don’t know.” Of course she knew, the shame was just too much though. “I had to pay rent, Cassie, you.. you don’t understand.” She tried to explain.
“I can’t give up my dream, but I can’t achieve it if I’m not a l i v e. I need the money.”
"I don't understand?" Being told that she didn't understand was like a slap to her face, "I have been homeless before, I have lived day to day in a nightmare not knowing when the next time I would even see food was. Don't you dare tell me I don't understand," Cass was pacing back and forth, endlessly running her fingers through her hair.
"Y'know, most people get a shitty part time job that they hate like bagging groceries or slinging coffee in a pretentious fucking coffee shop but not...this," the tears were biting at the corners of her eyes but she refused to let them fall down her face.

❝ I didn’t want you to find out about it this way I.. I was GOING to tell you. ❞

shifting away from the feel of the other’s hand tracing the long scar, his hands moving to grip theirs a l i t t l e too tightly for comfort as he pulls their hands away from his skin. ‘ DON’T fucking touch me. ‘ he’d meant to be specific, but the there part of his comment was cut short in his outburst. his annoyance unable to be hidden as he glares at the other. it’s too late for him to cover the scar or his actions now, but he’s a bit too preoccupied to worry about the latter.
"Fine, I won't touch you," Cass said eyeing the boy's aggravated features, "I'm just fascinated by scars is all. It won't happen again." She freed her hands from his too tight grip and flexed her fingers to relieve any tension caused by his hands. "Where did it come from anyway?"
“You look like you’re about to pass out.”

“Suure.”
“I can make chicken noodle soup if you want.”
“Yes please,” she said snuggling under her blankets, “Is it cold in here or is it just me?”

Viper shrugged. “I’m not really bothered by temperature anymore i guess?”
“I’ll be back asap with the soup.”
"Thanks, luv," Cass said still shivering. She then threw the blankets off of her like they were trying to eat her alive.

All of the color drained from Cassie’s face, even though she was as pale as a ghost, “Dear gods, please don’t.” “If you have any love in your heart for me, you won’t bloody do that.”

Cass tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear and averted her eyes to the floor, "Yes, mum."

Cass flinched at the sound of her mother's voice thundering through her eardrums. It was extremely rare that she had gotten her mother to the point of yelling at her, and every time she did, Cass felt like a child."What did I do this time?" her voice came through more cracked, raw, and vulnerable than she intended it to, but when her mother was like this towards her, she couldn't help but feel exposed.
@claudius-snape:
“And that’s exactly what you did… Ya nasty.”
“Not yet but your father and I can always try harder in the spare room above yours.”
