Ok I know I’ve mentioned similarities between Jonathan Sims and Simon from Iron Lung before, but now I’m on another sleep deprived bullshit comparison, and that is Jonathan Sims and Twilight Sparkle LIKE COME ON

GLADLY 🥹

So initially they’re both incredibly reclusive and reluctant to make connections outside of their work just bc they believe they’ve got better things to do

Obviously Twilight gets over that a LOT sooner than Jon does, but eventually they both have their respective connections that give them strength. For Twilight it’s literally her whole thing with the elements of harmony, meanwhile Jon uses his loved ones as anchors so he doesn’t lose who he is

They both also handle and harness a lot of power and try to use it for good (just ignore the feeding on fear bit 💔) through stopping multiple world ending events

They’re also both characterized as being intellectual and analytical, with that often being their downfall!

Honestly what sparked all of this is just that I kept seeing human!Twilight fanart and the glasses people keep giving her reminded me of Jon 😔

Also, they both struggle with some pretty deeply ingrained feelings of inadequacy when they don't live up to the standards they set for themselves. Jon has all of his internalized guilt and (at least early on) a need to impress authority figures. Twilight has multiple episodes that center around her intense fear of failure (particularly failing to impress Celestia, her mentor). They both try to tackle problems on their own until the stress overwhelms them, and need other people to help them regulate how much pressure they put themselves under.

the difference is Twilight has a support system and Jon rarely gets any real help 😭
