Mirabel tilted her head to the side, “A mutual understanding?” she echoed in confusion.
“Should I get Isa..?” she asked, maybe her sister would be better for this particular conversation. Mirabel wasn’t exactly in tune with the plants of the house.
he was quick to move his hands in front of him, waving them as he gave a nervous laugh yet again.
“ N-no thats ok I — we don’t need to do that. “ he was scared the plant wasn’t going to like him if Isabela spoke to it. he was … just assuming they had a mutual understanding.
She smiled at him, "Let's get something to eat, ¿eh?" She offered, gesturing downstairs. Then she paused, "...or did you want to stay up here?"

She lifted an eyebrow in disbelief.
“Tío Bruno, I know you’re still getting used to living outside of the walls of Casita, but, there’s no need for… that!”
She gestured to the plant, then held out her hand to her uncle, smiling. “It’s time to come out of hiding.”
he looked at her hand, then glanced at her before moving around the plant.
“ I feel like there is a need. “ he said nervously, “ you see Mira me and the plant have a … “ he stared at it then back at her. “ a mutual understanding. “ was that weird? that was weird wasnt it.

“Uhm… Tío….” Mirabel furrowed her brow, bending over a bit to put her hands on her knees, “What are you doing in that plant?”
he’s squinting at her through the leaves, “ I uh – “ he cleared his voice. “ I am not here at the moment Mira. “

Though, I probably wouldn’t be any good..” she smiled softly, thinking about how she liked to sew cute things on her clothes, but they were always kind of messy, and she hated her own handwriting unless she tried really hard to write nicely. It was almost too easy to look down on herself.
“It’s always a good time to start.” He didn’t like to hear her putting herself down like that, but he did understand that living in a family like the Madrigal one could put a lot of stress on someone this young. Even he was getting stressed over the prospect of not only marrying into the family, but also having kids that were likely to inherit some kind of weird power as well.
“So, why don’t you show me some of your work, and I show you mine?”
"Really?" she brightened, she loved to talk about her interests, but more often then not, people were too busy. The opportunity to gush to someone and then listen to their interests in turn sounded wonderful!
"I'd really like that! I mean- if you wanted.." she felt the need to backtrack, so often she found people not interested in hearing her go on and on about her likes. The prospect seemed hopeful though.

“Absolutely!” She grinned wide, “I mean, you seem great, but I’ve only really talked to you when Dolores is around.” She paused, “or I guess, Isabela before that…” he seemed like a nice enough guy, and Mirabel knew he wrote poetry, so he must have a brain under all that hair!
She decided a question was a good way to start, “What sort of poetry do you like? Do you only write your own or do you read it, too? I’m not much of a reader myself, I like working with my hands.”
She had read plenty of books on embroidery and sewing, learning beyond what her abuela and mama had taught her, but the instructional pictures were more help than any of the text that turned to mush when she thought about it too much.
“Well, I’m her boyfriend, am I not?” She’S smiling now, too, happy just thinking about her. Dolores was such a lovely girl, he was happy every day knowing she chose him.
“Uh… poetry….” He tapped his chin, apparently thinking about it. “It depends… I like reading and writing! Both are very fun, always depending on how I feel.” Sometimes, when he felt particularly morose, he’d write sad poetry, to be stashed away for no one to read.
“I could read to you?” he offers. It’s as good an attempt at making conversation as anything else he can think of, and Mirabel sounds fun to hang out with. For a kid.

Mirabel furrowed her brow, she was reminded of calling him a ‘big dumb hunk’ to her sister, but it was more of an exaggeration than anything else, not how she truly saw him.
“That’s…because they don’t know you!” She said carefully choosing her words. “There is a lot more to most people that meets the eye.” She grinned. “And I’m not just talking about my family!” She said with a chuckle.
“Oh, I know.” He has been met with this sort of prejudice before, and he also has a feeling that she gets a lot of it from her family. Her being the only non-Gifted kid, and all that.
“..do you want to get to know me?” It sounds a lot more fun than getting kicked by her gremlin of a cousin, anyway.

Mirabel’s smile faded, “What? No!!” She began to panic, “I didn’t mean it like that!!” Her glasses fell askew on her nose, she pushed them back up with her thumb, leaving a fingerprint on the glass. “UGH!” she groaned in frustration, taking them off completely to wipe them off on her skirt, then jammed them back on her face. “Disculpa… I didn’t mean to insult you, Mariano.” She said, sincerely. “I was just jokin’ around!” she gave a crooked-half smile.
Mariano sighed. She seemed to be genuinely sorry, and clearly hadn’t meant it, but he’s used to … well, people assuming he’s not the smartest, just because he happens to be handsome. As if that would preclude him also being smart somehow.
“No no, it’s fine, I just. Uh.” He felt as though Mirabel might be able to relate to being underappreciated, so this is worth a shot. “People sometimes, you know, actually think I’m dumb.”

“You think?” She chuckled, “that’s dangerous!” Maribel joked. She didn’t mean anything rude or mean spirited by it, just making conversation with her friend.
“I … did you just insult me?” He’s not sure what to think about that, or whether to be earnestly hurt. She’s just a teen, after all.
“Uh. I so think, yes.”

“Mariano! Heeeyyy…” Mirabel grinned, elbowing him lightly in the ribs as a friendly hello. “How’s my favorite…. almost cousin-in-law…?” she asked awkwardly, knowing her cousin Dolores was adamant about not marrying too soon. “Or.. just “parcero” for now, hmm?“ she laughed uncomfortably, "¿Cómo vas?”
“Well, we’re not married yet-” That’s a bit of a sticking point between the two; he wants to be married yesterday and she wants to take it slow. “So, not quite yet.”
Which means that for now, he gets to stay outside of this kind of weird house and observe it from the outside, which is fine by him. Not that he wants to be mean, but a moving house is … something.
“And uh, I’m. I’m fine. I think so?”

@clearasamirabel liked for a starter!
Ah, yes. Mirabel. The one member of th family he could count on to be not… weird. For the most part anyway. (He’s still not over that one dinner, and the whole rainstorm she caused, and his broken nose. Not fully.)
But she’s at least normal. He likes normal.
“Ah, hello, Mirabel.” Great opener.

“Oh!! Uh…”
Mirabel was more than a little surprised as she straightened her glasses. She stepped a little closer, caution heavy in her stride, hoping not to upset her fellow acquaintance.
She gripped the strap on her bag, and made to sit down in the grass next to Lisette. “Can I.. sit?” She asked, pointing to a spot maybe a meter away.
oh this was awkward. rubbing the back of her neck as her bangles jangled she gave a half hearted shrug. her ears were buzzing — this wasn’t the right time for someone to approach but, here she was.
“ Yeah. “ she said, her voice a slight bit chipper. she had to slap on that emotional mask … one her and her sister had learned well to co-op with. glancing over her shoulder at the cirque she looked back at the other woman. pointing at the cirque over her shoulder with a half smile. “ sorry about… uh… the whole thing with us setting up. “
Mirabel looked back at where Liz was glancing toward, "Oh, don't worry about it!" Mirabel gave a crooked sort of half-smile, placing herself down into the grassy spot near her acquaintance. "My family's got it covered."
"Lisette, right?" she asked, confirming the other's name. "I'm Mirabel, by the way. I know I can be ...forgettable sometimes!" She smiled brightly, but here was sadness behind her eyes. She folded her hands in her lap, fidgeting a little with the embroidery on her skirt.
