Indie, non-selective and multi-friendly Pepa Madrigal from Disneyâs ENCANTO.

It could have been an âI told you soâ moment if Bruno was still around to have such thoughts. âI told you I didnât want to talk about it. I told you it was better not to know what had happened.â His mind had been swallowed up by the same corrupted magic still oozing out of the creatureâs mouth, leaving behind only the beast. Under better circumstances, it might have almost recognized Pepa. Instead, it remembered being angry and afraid. Because of her.
Its fur puffed up defensively, trying to appear larger as it let out a warning squeal, tail still whipping aggressively behind it. Gaze drifted upwards, to the cloud over her head and it took a hesitant step back. Somewhere deep down, almost instinctively at this point, it knew that it could get zapped with lightning at any moment.
Alright, this had gone from questionable to absolutely horrifying in too little time for her to be comfortable. She wanted to run, yet stayed rooted to the spot as her cloud stated to grow slowly. She was aware that something was keeping this thing at bay, hoping to whatever God was out there that it would stay that way, at the same time trying to will herself to just turn.
And run.
Whatever this thing was, it wasnât her brother, and it looked like it didnât even recognize her anymore. Or maybe, and she shuddered to think about just how much worse thatâd be, it did.

Bruno halted as Pepa stood in his path and he shuffled back nervously, sweating and swallowing the lump in his throat. âTh-this time? Nothing, nonono, nothing!â
He turned on his heel again, attempting to get away in the other direction, his fear rising as the cloud above his sisters head grew bigger and more threatening.
âBruno.â Her voice was low, threateningly so. âTell me what you di.â Or sheâd work herself into a frenzy over not knowing, which wouldnât do any of them any good.
Which he should have known, but hey.

Even if he had an answer that wouldnât make Pepa more upset with him, he was no longer able to share it. His teeth were growing longer and sharper and sticking out at odd angles, filling his mouth and making it impossible to speak. His jaw and skull began growing and changing shape to better fit them, but they were still too big and too many and his mouth was unable to close entirely. He continued gagging and coughing until a big, black tongue unfurled, dangling out to one side.
Seams ripped on the clothes he had been unable to get off as the growing and monstrous body burst through them. It shook the remaining fabric off before letting out a shrill and inhuman screech, long fleshy tail whipping back and forth. Its nose twitched as it loudly breathed and it turned its head to look at Pepa with big, black eyes.
She had been expecting a lot of things, but not quite the thing that was staring her down right now. She could see herself reflected in those eyes, her own horrified expression mirrored back at her as though she was staring into a lake of ink.
There was nothing she could say, and the sandal slipped out of her hands, hitting the ground with a soft thud. Pepa was no longer mad; all of that had been taken over by sheer fear and horror. Of course Bruno wouldnât want her to see this. Of course heâd hide away.
âB-bruno?â she asked, voice shaking almost as much as she was.
(plops a starter call here.)
diamcnddcgsâ:
âYes I am!â Bruno yelled back. Luckily for Pepa, he was currently curled up in a ball on the floor in too much pain to actually lock the door. A sob escaped him as he heard the door creak open. Whether it was Casita doing as she had asked or just that he hadnât closed the door all the way in his hurry, he couldnât say. Any calm he felt from being safe in his room that might have slowed the transformation down was immediately lost.
The fear of being discovered coupled with the fear of what Pepa was going to do to him bounced around in his head, echoing and multiplying and just changing him faster. His crying was interrupted as he began to cough up a thick, black, slimy substance, similar to what he imagined was swallowing his mind back up. The sound of it rang in his ears and pounded against his skull, all the while his skin itching and burning. He couldnât breathe.
He sat up and managed to get his ruana off over his head before crying out in pain as his spine cracked, growing and reshaping into an unnatural hunch. His hands followed suit as he clawed at his shirt that grew more and more constrictive as his body grew bigger and bigger.
Whatever was going on in there, it sounded like a whole herd of rats. Very, very large and aggressive rats. Did Bruno breed his dumb furry friends in his rooms and theyâd gotten out of hand? Was that why he was so nervous? She wouldnât put it past him, anyway.
âBruno, you know that hiding only makes things worse.â Or rather, she would make things worse for him if he kept lying and sneaking around like that. She stepped into the room, over what looked like a piece of wood, splintered and jagged. Her eyes looked up to find the table it had belonged to, torn to pieces, then an armchair, the stuffing ripped out-
And then Bruno.
Or rather what she assumed to be Bruno, anyway.
âÂĄAy dios mio! Bruno, what is going on?â She held her discorded sandal sheâd grabbed earlier, trying to decide if sheâd try and put it on or drop it and run.
alottosayaboutbrunoâ:
Brunoâs smile twitched uneasily. âNooo, just⊠Checking in on my favourite sister is all! Certainly nothing else happening!â The man chuckled awkwardly and swallowed, turning on his heel suddenly. âWELLLL, I best be doing⊠Uh⊠Something.â Donât faint, please donât faint. Brunoâs leg wobbled as he headed off.
âWait.â She spotted his slight limp almost immediately, and quickly caught up to stand in his way. âWhere are you going?â There was no way she was letting him off the hook this easily.
âWhat did you do this time?â
@clarocielâ continued from x
Bruno remained where he stood, arms straight to attention and stiff at his sides, the fake grin on his face twitching as his head strained at the effort.
âSooo, a lot of things going on with you then?â Divert her, Bruno, good job!
âA lot, yes, you could say so.â Definitely one way to put this. âIs there a reason you are asking...?â

đđđ đđđą  đđ𩠠đĄđđ©đđ„  đȘđđŠđđđ  he  could  disappear  as  much  as  he  does  right  now  .  the  reference  to  isabelaâs  engagement  has  him  sputtering  ,  struggling  to  find  some  sort  of  reason  as  to  why  they  were  different  .  who  cares  if  his  cousin  had  almost  been  engaged  ?  he  wasnât  his  cousin  !  but  instead  of  saying  any  of  that  ,  camilo  merely  pouts  ,  crosses  his  arms  like  a  particularly  huffy  child  . Â

âSomeone has to carry on the family legacy,â she says, sounding as though she was teetering just at the edge of snapping at him. There had been a lot of pressure from her mother when it came to marrying, and she was more than ready to do the same thing to her son, however unconsciously.
âBesides, Iâm sure you are very popular.â
"Si, Si, Si, Pepa, I'm fine," Bruno insisted, massaging his head with a wince but caught her staring and gave her a big fake grin, "But, how are you!!? Whats-Whats happening with mi hermana these days?!"
"Oh, what is not going on?" She wasn't in the mood to talk about herself, quite frankly, and doing her best to remain at the very least polite.

Stumbling back at the lightening, Rick glared at her. Now starting to get tired of his version of being nice. Shoulders tensed as he rested his hands on his hips, standing as if he didnât have any plan on moving from the spot at all.Â
Even if he did want to end the conversation, he guessed that there would be another chance of running into someone as equally as frustrating as this woman.Â
âAll I need is a fucking screwdriver, maybe a blowtorch, and some scraps of metal â surely you have something akin to what Iâm talking about,â He pressed a button on his watch, projecting an image of the two tools he mentioned. âDoesnât have to even be exact, if you think you see something slightly or even vaguely similar, thatâll work.âÂ
As the image retracted back into his watch, he placed his hands on his hips again. He calmed down slightly, shrugging at the question. âI can literally do anything, you want me to enhance your powers, Iâll give you a serum for that â want me to invent space travel for your universe, I can do that too. Name it and Iâll get it done in a week.â
âAy!â Pepa balked at the display of ... whatever he wanted. That one thing looked like a weapon that, apparently, shot out fire. Not a good thing to have when you lived in the middle of the jungle- lots of wood to burn. And people, too.
âYou want to do what?â She could already summon anything from a mild sprinkle to a hurricane in the middle of wedding reception, anything more powerful than that would probably wipe the Encanto clean off the map.
There was, of course, one thing that immediately popped up in her mind when he said he could do anything at all. Maybe he could ... fix her? Orr at least make her Gift less of a burden...
âAlright, cabrĂłn, if you help me, Iâll get you your blowing torch and screwdriver.â Was she being selfish? Maybe so. Did she just watch a hunk of metal crash into a three?
Definitely. She deserved a break.
lesdamesâ:
Sadness filled Julietaâs eyes as her sister spoke. She wished she could take that pain away, make her feel better, help her to find the value in herself, but it wasnât that easy. Still, sheâd have to keep trying. Maybe she couldnât fix everything, but easing the pain is better than nothing.Â
She wrapped her arms around Pepa, hugging her gently. âYes, we do have each other. Never forget that Iâm here for you.â
The hug made her feel a lot of things - and âbetterâ was one of them, sure. But there was also a lot of pent-up rage, a vague feeling of sadness, and part of her that wanted to put as much distance between as possible.
She acted on none of those. âAnd I appreciate you more than you know, I think.â
diamcnddcgsâ:
Bruno was used to being chased by Pepa. He wasnât used to being chased by her while transforming into some horrible rat monster.
He repeatedly swore under his breath as he stumbled up the stairs, having to crawl for a couple as the pain of his changing feet became too much to put weight on. A soft whimper escaped him when he saw that the dark fur had spread down past his sleeves and then he was at the top of the stairs. Gracias a Dios. Now he just had to get across to his tower and then everything would be fine. Until he came back out again in a few days and got an even worse reaction from his sister. Was he in Hell? Had the failed magic actually killed him and now he was in an endless tormenting cycle in Hell? He felt like he might be in Hell.
Sandals fell off the now digitigrade feet as he ran as fast as he could down the hall, grabbing the railing to help him turn the corner faster. He was almost there. It would be fine. Nobody would find out. Even though he was very clearly not entirely human anymore. He scrambled up the last few steps to his door and finally fell to the floor of his room.
On the upside, Pepa chasing Bruno around the house (usually outfitted with a chancla, though,. and not just bare hands), so that provided enough cover for the both of them to go by unnoticed. No one cared that Pepa was upset, figuring sheâd take care of her own problem in her own way.
She had just rounded the corner of the hallway, where her sistersâ room was, and spotted the last of her brother slipping into his room. Only... what sheâd last spotted wasnât what she should have see. His back, maybe, or his ruana, but.. .this was a tail, very clearly so. Pepa nearly tripped over the discarded sandals, grabbing one to look at it.
Something was not right here at all.
âBruno! You re not locking yourself back into your room!â She threw the sandal at his door, which it hit, coming to rest in front of the door. Pepa was fuming now, and turned around to address the very house itself.
âCasita! Let me in!â
renisenceâ:
She knew that feeling. She had it so often, but she also loved her familiaâs gifts, just not her own. How easily she fell into moments of overstimulation, where she wished she could mute the world around her. She smiled, hugging her mami close, and rubbing her back comfortably.
âSometimes I wish the same, but I think you are amazing, mami.â
âOh, mi vida, thatâs so sweet of you to say.â She knew Dolores had the worst gift out of all of her kids, and arguably, out of the family, but she never complained, a trait Pepa admired. She wished she had been this good at keeping quiet at her daughterâs age.
lesdamesâ:
Mirabel knew that Pepa was holding something back, but it didnât feel right to push. As much as she wanted her tĂa to be able to get the things that were weighing on her off her chest, that had to be her own decision. She had an inkling she might be woefully unequipped to be able to fully help her, anyways. But she felt that some progress had been made today, and that was better than nothing.Â
âYeah.â She answered, nodding and giving Pepa a smile. âYouâre right, we all should.â
âAnd you are helping us,â Pepa said with a smile. Her weather cleared up into a rainbow, and she looked at the raincoat again. âIn more way than one.â
She felt a little bad that she hadnât really given Mirabel and her unique talents much thought before, having skipped over her in favour of the members of the family with gifts.

â I mean⊠I didnât sleep so.. uh.. â he blinked as he glanced away. this was awkward wasnât it? so awkward. â good? â
â...you should sleep more.â As should she, but that wasnât going to happy whatever way they spun it.
âWe... we both need to.â
