black queer actor, singer and aids activist. jussie smollett was a survivor of a hate crime that happened in the early hours on tuesday morning in chicago.

according to police reports, jussie was called racists and homophobic slurs by two masked attackers who then proceeded to put a noose around his neck and poured bleach on him as they yelled, “this is MAGA country!” the two attackers fled.

jussie took himself to the hospital and was treated for a fractured rib and discharged.

what happened to jussie is a hate crime.

what happened to jussie is white terrorism.

the connection to racism and homophobia are historically linked just as the continued terror against black and other marginalized groups are linked to MAGA. jussie was attacked because he is queer and because he is black.

jussie, we love you and stand with you. this attack will not silence you and it will not send us into hiding. get well. we are fighting for you! we will continue to call out homophobia and racism. we will continue to lift, support and defend black queer folks. we will continue to let MAGA folks that we bash back!
