Fieldwork Chapter 4

For my fieldwork I choose my Business Orientation class. There are 54 students in the class and there is practically an equal amount of females and males, 28 males and 26 females to be precise. In the class males are slightly more dominate in terms of speaking and asking questions.

If a question is asked the ratio is about 4:3 in favor of males. I noticed that males to longer to say their answers while females got straight to the point males extended it. Males on average took about 22 seconds to answer the question females took about 13 seconds. In terms of body language both were moving around and showed a lot of body movements like hand gestures.

My Professor is a male I feel he was trying to make the females more involved but that was only because he noticed that only the males were more active. He tries to make everyone participate. I don't think gender effects his interaction with students in the class

Today / 9/14/17

Morgan state university is having an grand opening ceremony on the recently open behavioral social science building. This building is holding one of the most prestigious of professors and staff. if you’re attending, you can hear the Morgan state band playing active tunes of mainstream artist. The first thing you see is a big huge banner saying congratulations and grand opening ceremony with a row of chairs around. A Speaker arise speaking of motivational and reminding like speeches referring greatness within the school.

Building Opening

•The band opened up for the ceremony.

•I noticed that the band played a lot of Micheal Jackson e.g PYT , Don't stop till you get enough.

•Gloria Dickson was the opening speaker

•The building represents the excellence of Morgan for the last 150 years

•Most of the people there were much older

•A good percentage of people in attendance where dressed professionally

•There were a lot of white people for an HBCU grand opening

Holly Baker

After reading the article by anthropologist Holly Baker. I found myself agreeing with most of the comments she made. She applied anthropology to her every day life. She speaks on how the islands were used for nuclear test and how was causing negative effects on it. The situation on the island reminds me about uneven development because they aren’t benefiting from it. She said that Globalization makes everything seem faster , I so agree with this because Globalization has made communication quicker .Its also easier to move from one place to another. She also states that “ Anthropology is about being the best human being we can be” I agree because anthropology is the study of humans
