A project I've been working on is replacement portraits for the RPG Maker game FFXI Braver. I like the game, it seems very cool, but the default menu portraits are right now AI-generated placeholders. So it made me quite unhappy every time I opened the menu.

I've gotten thru the four protagonists, in their default class loadouts, and so I've released it as a mod pack anyone can use! Hooray! Real art, drawn on paper with pencil!

there's still two more characters to draw, two temporary party members. But right now the mod is at least good enough for me to keep playing on my own file, wahahahaha.

While I was working on this, the devs added a feature by which modders can specify different portraits for each character's class, as if to goad me into drawing a total of 102 portraits.

I'm really happy with these two. I haven't actually met them in-game yet so I guess all I can do is hope I got them right lmao.

I do want to do more of these... maybe not all 80+ portraits it would require to get every job for every character. but it would be fun to fill out more of the game with more portraits

I've been debating whether I want to do more ffxi-inspired costumes or ones largely based on the sprite and portrait art. I'm leaning towards the latter, since I prefer consistency over lore-compliance. I think I'll probably do that and then add details from FFXI costumes whenever possible (for example on Morrow's WAR outfit or Alexander's armor which is based on the Paladin artifact)
