The streets were dark and cold, desolate and with a passing storm. Zim could hear distant storm clouds rumbling, but where the Irken normally reacted in terror, he barely flinched in this moment.
Claret eyes gleam in the night sky, antennae stalk pinned miserably against his head for all to see. Or anyone that’s about on the streets at least. For the most part the streets are vacant other than occasional passing cars.
He feels pain rack his lungs with every shaky inhale, of a chest just bursting with the urge to sob. Tears he holds back. An Invader doesn’t cry, he reminds himself. But then…the new reminder:
What Invader? He was never one to begin with. Simply a scorn of society, and the laughingstock of his very planet. He can still hear the jeering words of the leaders he once claimed to adore. Every word pounded the agony into his skull with their resonating mocking laughter he’d never not hear.
Gripping his head, Zim feels his footsteps falter as he stumbles onto the wet asphalt. He gazes at his reflection in a puddle ,of a person he doesn’t know anymore.

Dib had been rushing home from the city park, a camera clutched tightly against his rib cage. The device was filled with definitive proof of mutant ninja squirrels, proof he would gloat over on the TSEN Forums the moment he got home! The boy lifted his hoodie off of his head, looking up and down the street before eventually crossing over.
It wasn’t long before the paranormal enthusiast had quite literally bumped into ZIM, knocking the device out of his grasp and onto the ground. Dib let out a shrill gasp before scrambling to recover his camera from the puddle, of all places for it to land!!! The teen looked over the camera, a worried look on his face. Had the water shorted it? There’s no way! Those photos...
“ ZIM! Watch where you’re going next time, huh!” Sparks flew off the boy’s glasses, “ I could’ve-... what’s the matter with you???”
