Bad Writing Isn't a Sin.

I’m not going to act like Milgram is the most awesome literature master piece since Shakespeare. This isn’t anyway a post to convince anyone that the writing is amazing and undeserving of criticism. However, I fear many of y’all see one mistake in a work and treat the whole work as garbage needing to be thrown out.

I am definitely disappointed with Mikoto's case this trial a lot. Not as much with the DID rep (not saying it's good, nor bad just meh). I feel like making him kill 12 people was like kinda crazy you know? 1-3 maybe if they were stalkers or harassing him but just randos is kinda sad to see. I did see a theory on here about how the victims weren't random that was interesting.

I think a lot of people expected t3 to be the climax of the Milgram story compared to it being the falling action. Kinda leading to this constant t3 drama we have been having. In turn for thinking it was going to be the climax of the series y'all are expecting more and more story wise. Creating your own disappointment when it's not up to your theories.

Sometimes, I'm not going to lie were very out the blue. Such as Mahiru being in an arranged marriage. It was in the symbolism just too heavily, but I do think it fits Mahiru to forget such an important detail to talk about her love.

I do think Yamanaka focuses a lot on the characters would actually act or represent in the MVs. Personally, I love it because I just love people and how they act. I do think this character specific focus does take away from how the viewer is able to figure out the crime, especially by t2. I know for Shidou and Mahiru that after their death videos many people were upset with the crimes being overly vague in the MVs. To where they kinda needed a t3 MV to expand the crime details to their specific cases.

Yamanaka also tries to make us as the audience think about the crimes in a wider context. Yuno's case is kinda the first one that comes to mind here, as she was put under the abortion debate when she just has a miscarriage. It does work in many of the cases. In other cases like Mahiru's and Mikoto's it's too wide. Trying to be ambiguous with Mahiru's lead to this out of left field case file. With Mikoto's case being too ambiguous about his DID in the case file and not explaining if John came from childhood trauma or just work stress. Leading to so many more questions than answers.

Anyways, please don't harass Yamanaka or the staff. You are no better than Fuuta who you criticize to bits.

I love seeing these two parallel each other. Especially, when Amane points out to Es that they look like they aren't being controlled like a puppet anymore is so nice. Like they are just both kids doing whatever the adults (or rabbit) are telling them to do and they are just trying to figure it out. Like they are just babies 🥹.

Amane's 3rd trial is so like realistic to how like someone raised in a cult acts. Especially, when they start to question the cult, and what happened to them. With that kinda childish outside interest in what they didn't get to experience. Especially, now that she is fully removed from the cult in Milgram (given no clue what happens after this Milgram).

Being someone who has had friends in active cults looking back on previous experiences with the cult is always so sad. But I'm so happy for Amane for deconstructing the ideas that her cult believed in and trying to open up 🥹. She's our baby y'all.

This trial is about to be roughest one in this series. Amane's case is so complex at baseline and just adding new stuff is just about to make it worse. It's not even necessary the writing but the fandom reaction. Unfortunately, I fear that I have some more complex feelings on the matter than the average viewer given personal experiences with having friends in active cults (+ the second hand trauma from that).

Like everyone has valid points from voting either way this trial. The Milgram system is set up to be this corrupt system that we all bought into. For active participates/viewers that's what we bought into. However, the way some in this fandom talk about this case as either: evil child, or angel child. Is beating the point of what some in the fandom want to "defeat" in this system/fandom. The fandom making this out to be a us versus them issue causes this unnecessary debate. As well as insulting others views (please don't do this in any argument btw).

Outside of fandom fighting, some in the fandom need to understand cults can be more than just doomsday cults. I would love to yap more about this but I'll yap about Amane's specific cult only (just for my sanity). As of May 17th 2026, Amane's cult seems to be a religious cult based off of the syncretism of Buddhism and Shinto in Japan. With the cult taking in donations of some kind to fund maybe the leader or cult activities. Physical and or mental abuse could be common among the cult members, but it could also just be Amane's family unit. As we have not seen other members outside of Amane face the extreme abuse we have seen so far. Other abuses have not been shown or implied (and let's hope not be confirmed).

Amane took those ideas from her cult and internalized them because of the abuse she faced. She might not have fully believed all the cults ideas before she went to Milgram. With the cat situation being a tipping point for her tolerance from the abuse. As the cult possibly killing or faked killing the cat and the electro torture we see in Purge March. Making any cult believing parts of Amane equate receiving medical treatment with death on top of on of the cults commandments being not around killing, if I am remembering right. Creating a mix of those ideas, in most likely a spur of the moment decision, she thought killing her mother? as she was the one receiving medical treatments and was an abuser to her (and might have done stuff with the cat). Creating a confirmation of her beliefs, while not fully solid (as you can see some push and pull with her) causing for Shidou's murder to be done so easily.

In no way am I try to sway anyone's vote. This is more a post for me and my feelings if anything. As it's hard to express this in smaller bits. Also, I do plan on expanding more the idea of Amane and the "cult part" through the lens of "Theory of Structural Dissociation." Mostly cause I love explaining dissociation stuff and I think it can help others with processing her story a bit better.

CW// Sexual Violence

I like how so far none of the Milgram cases include the prisoners committing acts of sexual violence on the victims. Obviously it would make no sense for any of them to do those actions in general, but compared to say like American media it will throw SA and stuff at us for no reason. While writing the trauma of those events so shallow in someway to add depth to a show with no clear meaning/message. Something I noticed for a while and I weirdly appreciate Yamanaka for avoiding it when writing, especially when SA is also weirdly common in Jp writing.

I feel like the biggest thing that draws me into Milgram isn't really even related to the characters but like how others perceive them. Don't doubt I love the characters to bits and pieces so much. Whenever it comes to the analysis side of the characters I can't help but love to listen to others connect to them and how they relate to them. I love listening to those who have these different ideas from me.

One that sticks out the most to me fandom wise was before Yuno t3 was just being released, I saw a post on here talking about their experience being a sugar baby and ending up pregnant and her thoughts and experiences from that. Being able to understand something that other wise would be this suppressed idea just brings me so much joy. Being able to enjoy someone else's world and eyes even, if those experiences aren't sanitary.

I don't know if this is a pretty normal thought of over appreciation for people, but it's something that's been on my mind since the start of trial 3.

SPOILERS FOR MILGRAM

The fact her nails are done still is so nice to see. While it could be just a simple animation error but given Haruka's spine and neck were detailed, I doubt a detail like grown out nails would be forgotten.

Context: I'm a PCT (Personal Care Technician) in-training and this week's lecture we are supposed to be discussing grooming and hygiene for patients. One of the things brought up is nail care. For some patients they prefer to have painted nails to give them a sense of self/autonomy. As it gives patients more agency compared to being just a "patient."

Her nails being painted shows that Yuno or Shidou want to give her some from of agency as person, not just a patient. It's a tiny detail but I thought someone would probably like to know that.

Lowkey I hate the "Muu is a narcissist/has NPD," and "Fuuta and or Amane have religious psychosis" hcs or people who genuinely believe they have those conditions in canon because not only are you stereotyping two conditions (because a lot of the definitions of the conditions aren't from actual psychology just at best pop psychology which is its own can of worms) but also

- Muu is selfish but not narcissistic, even then she's literally just a 16 yr old and teens are often selfish. Also, not all selfishness is equal to a FULL BLOWN personality disorder, if it was then NPD would have a solid 10%+ of the population.

- Amane is literally a 12 yr child born into a cult she was taught those beliefs later evolving those beliefs into her own beliefs of "Amanism" which excludes one of her original cult's teachings. Her later indoctrinating Fuuta into Amanism because he genuinely believed that it would give him salvation or some type of saving. If either of those two had religious psychosis they would be claiming to be hearing "kami-sama," having disorganized thoughts, isolating, etc, etc, basically both of them would be showing obvious signs of psychosis.

Anyways, idk I just hate people claiming characters have conditions when they like don't 😭

Update on this take: I do believe now that Fuuta has religious psychosis because of his disorganized speech/phrasing in Appare March. Amane I'll put on a to be determined because she might have it, if she's as well is very disorganized in speech/phrasing or other psychosis symptoms.

I'm so happy the purgatory theory is somewhat debunked now after Life's release.

Just coming from a writing perspective, it just makes the deaths in Milgram not matter and just makes them kinda flat? if that makes any sense. If everyone is already dead why does it matter if those prisoners died because of our voting. It just nulls the actual effects of our actions as an audience.

Also, most all the characters don't seem like they would just die randomly. The only ones I could see being dead are Haruka and Amane but even then that doesn't make sense cause Haruka was caught by police and why would Amane's cult kill her when they are against killing. Also, how would someone like Yuno or Kotoko ended up there. Everyone in Milgram seems to be in decent physical health, no one seemed to have it out for any of the characters, and no one seemed ungodly suicidal in the first trial that they would take their own life.

Just like it doesn't make sense, in my opinion.

It feels weird seeing myself a lot in the Milgram characters, specifically Amane. Cause fully in my eyes her actions do make sense. I know it definitely comes from my own personal experiences when it came to being around her age, and dealing with abuse (maybe not exactly cult abuse but still abuse). It feels in a way i'm on trial with them in a sense, and in a weird way i'm watching/experiencing their judgement with them, while also judging them.

Why does the Milgram fandom have such an issue with pro-ships and i'm not talking like harumuu (presuming they are both minors), I mean like minor x adult.

Like you have 7 adult characters to ship with and you choose the FOUR MINOR CHARACTERS. Like bro choose a different ship that isn't illegal and just weird. Plus, it's always the really good artists and editors like BRO YOU COULD HAVE BEEN COOL BUT NO YOUR A FUCKING FREAK.

Also, if you can't tell I DONT FW PRO-SHIPPERS, I will and have blocked people over this idc. There is no valid reason to be shipping those ships, even if it's a coping mechanism it's not a good one and you should be processing those feelings in different ways.
