Kyland by Mia Sheridan
Dirt poor. Hillbilly. Backwoods hick. Mountain folk. Tenleigh Falyn struggles each day to survive in a small, poverty-stricken, coal mining town where she lives with her sister and mentally ill mother. Her dream of winning the college scholarship given to one student by the local coal company and escaping the harshness of her life, keeps her going. Kyland Barrett lives in the hills, too, and has worked tirelessly—through near starvation, through deep loneliness, against all odds—to win the Tyton Coal Scholarship and leave the town that is full of so much pain. They're both determined not to form any attachments, but one moment changes everything. What happens when only one person gets to win? When only one person gets to leave? And what happens to the one left behind? Kyland is a story of desperation and hope, loss and sacrifice, pain and forgiveness, but ultimately, a story of deep and unending love.
It has everything I was looking for in a book!
I love angst, I am such a sucker for angst that I personally want to try having my heart broken lol but anyway this will definitely bring you to tears, if it doesn’t you can hunt me down (please don’t omg im just kidding), I also like stories with infidelity altho I do not condone it in real life!!!!!!! This has that tiny pinch of infidelity (sort of but not really) plus tragedies, drama makes a story better right? And there’s the issue of somewhat forbidden love because they’re rivals for a sole scholarship that could help them escape their tragic situation.
10/10 would recommend!!!!

Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover
When Tate Collins meets airline pilot Miles Archer, she knows it isn’t love at first sight. They wouldn’t even go so far as to consider themselves friends. The only thing Tate and Miles have in common is an undeniable mutual attraction. Once their desires are out in the open, they realize they have the perfect set-up. He doesn’t want love, she doesn’t have time for love, so that just leaves the sex. Their arrangement could be surprisingly seamless, as long as Tate can stick to the only two rules Miles has for her. Never ask about the past. Don’t expect a future. They think they can handle it, but realize almost immediately they can’t handle it at all. Hearts get infiltrated. Promises get broken. Rules get shattered. Love gets ugly.
First of all I love Colleen Hoover and her books! BUT ...
I honestly didn’t like this one, I was so hyped because its written by Colleen Hoover, the hero is a hot pilot, the heroine is the hero’s bestfriend’s sister and again its written by Colleen Hoover but the heroine’s a doormat which is a really turn off for me :( I don’t even read the hero’s point of views because they were flashbacks of his past which is so dragging imo.
All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven
Theodore Finch is fascinated by death, and he constantly thinks of ways he might kill himself. But each time, something good, no matter how small, stops him. Violet Markey lives for the future, counting the days until graduation, when she can escape her Indiana town and her aching grief in the wake of her sister’s recent death. When Finch and Violet meet on the ledge of the bell tower at school, it’s unclear who saves whom. And when they pair up on a project to discover the “natural wonders” of their state, both Finch and Violet make more important discoveries: It’s only with Violet that Finch can be himself—a weird, funny, live-out-loud guy who’s not such a freak after all. And it’s only with Finch that Violet can forget to count away the days and start living them. But as Violet’s world grows, Finch’s begins to shrink.
The pace of the story was kinda slow for me but then again that’s probably because it was recommended by a friend to me and I kinda have this thing that I get pressured when someone recommends a book to me lmao but its a good read because the hero is very funny like really funny and hes really weird in a good kind of way but you can really tell that there’s something wrong with him.
The heroine used to be very lively and popular, a cheerleader/student council officer and part of the popular clique until her sister died, she’s blaming herself for what happened and now she’s kind of just trying to survive daily.
At first Violet doesn’t want anything to do with Theodore but he’s very persistent and he slowly grew on her until the highlight of their days become days they are together.
What I didn’t like about it was the ending, it was kinda bland and predictable for me but still very heartbreaking.
Penryn and the End of Days by Susan Ee
It's been six weeks since angels of the apocalypse descended to demolish the modern world. Street gangs rule the day while fear and superstition rule the night. When warrior angels fly away with a helpless little girl, her seventeen-year-old sister Penryn will do anything to get her back. Anything, including making a deal with an enemy angel. Raffe is a warrior who lies broken and wingless on the street. After eons of fighting his own battles, he finds himself being rescued from a desperate situation by a half-starved teenage girl. Traveling through a dark and twisted Northern California, they have only each other to rely on for survival. Together, they journey toward the angels' stronghold in San Francisco where she'll risk everything to rescue her sister and he'll put himself at the mercy of his greatest enemies for the chance to be made whole again.
I love this series so much that I read all in more or less than 3 days! (there are 3 books and I have a life so that’s something right?)
I’m into dystopian/apocalypse/romance genres and this is a combination of the three so its a great read for me, I’m always on the edge because I don’t know what’s gonna happen next that I’m like omygod omygod omygod what what what and then thrilled af whenever Raffe and Penryn gets into trouble and then wanna barf rainbows when they get cute. And I’m sure youngsters love the idea of an angel in a romantic relationship with a human :DDDD
I love it when Raffe gets possessive!!!!!! <3
there’s this twins who will make you laugh really really loud because they are super funny they have this line, its an HBO reference, that was my favorite :D and then there’s this villain who you wanna hate but you’ll end up loving him! OTL
so to wrap up this review, all I can say is I want this book to be a movie so I can see everything in action!
at the highest peak of my city! it was an amazing experience, super tiresome but so worth it, the view was superb and the mountains were like paintings!
Hopeless by Colleen Hoover
Sometimes discovering the truth can leave you more hopeless than believing the lies… That’s what seventeen-year-old Sky realizes after she meets Dean Holder. A guy with a reputation that rivals her own and an uncanny ability to invoke feelings in her she’s never had before. He terrifies her and captivates her all in the span of just one encounter, and something about the way he makes her feel sparks buried memories from a past that she wishes could just stay buried. Sky struggles to keep him at a distance knowing he’s nothing but trouble, but Holder insists on learning everything about her. After finally caving to his unwavering pursuit, Sky soon finds that Holder isn’t at all who he’s been claiming to be. When the secrets he’s been keeping are finally revealed, every single facet of Sky’s life will change forever.
I’m new to this book review thing haha so please bear with my nonsense
I loved everything in the first half of the book with all the cutesy cheesy teenage love going on although of course I got confused with their first meeting with the way Dean reacted but anyway the second half was amazing because I didn’t know what’s about to happen and the plot twists were so unpredictable to me (or maybe I’m just slow heh).
There were a lot of lines that made me laugh out loud literally and smile like an idiot, my only negative comment is that the sad parts didn’t really get me to bawl but overall i love the book! <3
111015 I created this blog for my book reviews.
If you told me before that I’d be reading tons of books, I’d laugh at you but look at me now heh ...
