"You're welcome." They laughed during the embrace, squeezing her back.

Kyrie held up the necklace, marveling at it with lips slightly agape. "Wow. It kind of looks covered in eyes. Should it?"

"I'm sure it will protect me well, thank you." They were already clasping it around their neck, laying it over the fabric of their shirt. Yaira's necklace lay below it. They didn't wear it every day lately, but it felt right today to remember her loving existence. Now, one sister's love joined another.

"Who made it?"

okay y'all I'm thinking using a VPN while using tungle is why hiyori got auto-terminated, so like, make an informed decision on whether you want to risk that too ok I still haven't heard back about reinstating the blog, but he's still in isola, and can (hopefully) temporarily be found over at @detectivegame!

"My birthday would have been celebrated by random gifts from the other villagers in Wisteria Town. I can remember getting a whole bunch of fruits and vegetables I had to shove in the freezer because we couldn't eat them fast enough..."

👻 To wake up one day and have memories of a different life altogether was definitely a little jarring. Living a life as a regular person in a quiet town? Owning a business and not being a pirate? Being married? "Perona Huet, huh..." She laid in bed with her head pointed to the ceiling, eventually looking over at the person laying beside her.

"So, we're married, apparently?" She was supposed to sound shocked, but it came off more like stating the obvious since she could remember every step that had led to that point.

"Usually when the Stars do something it's bad. But I can't say I mind this one too much..." She slid her hand down to grab Kyrie's own under the sheets, locking their fingers and giving it a squeeze. "But still being in Spirale makes this a little confusing."

"......" At first, the only sound that left Kyrie was their soft breathing. They mirrored their partner — wife! — in staring up at the ceiling.

They woke up feeling older, as if their body caught up with the time they'd experienced after death, alive, with much more lived experience. The memories of running around that rural town and its abundantly green outskirts were at odds with their former reality, but it was fresh and real and comforting all the same.

As silent tears trickled out of the corners of their eyes over the preciousness of the memories (a flower-drenched wedding among them), the first grumbles of hunger also stirred in the pit of their stomach.

Wow.

"It's nice, right now," Kyrie responded, wiping away at the tears with their free hand. "It might be an accident on the Stars' part, so I won't give them too much credit."

They squeezed Perona's hand back and turned onto their side, facing her. Affection warmed the watery shine to their eyes.

"It's nice to have experienced a life that didn't hurt as much... but one where I still found my way to you."

ALTERNATIVE ALLEGORY - STORY OF SEASONS AU

born and raised in rural Wisteria Town, now married to their high school sweetheart @horoffic. lives alongside her and a white cat named Ghost

kyrie runs Morning Glory Farm, a small flower-centric farm that supplies some of the stock of Wisteria's flower shop

doesn't socialize a whole lot but is at least considered One Of Them in Wisteria (to their relief)

supports their wife in all her pursuits! behold her amazing designs!!

aware they've been AUed but pretty chill with it. it's a nice little idyllic backstory to have for a while (wishes they would've had more need for legal representation, though)

they brush their hair away from tickling their tatted neck and hum, "For one, the heats just the best." They laugh with a shrug, "As someone who was made in fire, summer no matter how hot it is will always have a special place." And Autumn, they agreed with what Kyrie said about it being beautiful. The way the colors of the leaves changed and that crisp morning air. It was all really nice.

"Apparently they'll pile up all those leaves into one big pile and jump right in."

They glance over at Kyrie with a playful smile, "Wanna try it out?"

"I'm glad someone likes the heat. There are too many complaints in summer." Including from themself sometimes, but they'd leave that unsaid.

"Piling them up and jumping into them counts as having a fortress? Sounds like the bar is a little low there..." They stared doubtfully at the fallen leaves. "But I liked jumping into piles of leaves when I was younger."

They stood up and stretched. "Yeah, I'd be up for doing it again!"

👻 "Horohorohoro! Most of what I've done my whole life has been for me, but when you think about it? Doing it for you is doing it for me, right? Because I'm happy when you're happy!" Corny again. Perona might have been consuming a little too much romance content recently, but she at least meant what she said.

The Ghost Princess took their shoulders and hugged them tightly again. "If you're worried about it, you should be proud that the lady you think is pretty and draws attention chose you, right?"

"Oh, do you want to be my knight, Kyrie? We could get you a sword. Hmm... But people don't usually give me too many problems. Usually it's behind my back if anything. Anyone bold enough to do it to my face would end up with a Negative Hollow to the face! Even so, it's reassuring to know you have my back. Thank you."

"I don't understand them at all," Kyrie replied, referring to the people who would talk behind her back, "But since we're together, I'd sure hope so."

"I may not have a sword, but I'll protect you no matter what." As they pulled away from the hug to resume a steady dance, their eyes were soft yet resolved. Not even to make up for the past — to make sure the future didn't repeat itself.

They wondered briefly if Yaira blamed herself for Kyrie going first, without her. She'd cried after that, a lot, but didn't have a habit of talking to herself. While there was nothing that could've been done by a powerless human, it was normal for one to wish they had some ability to save a loved one.

"I don't feel much of a sense of danger anymore," they admitted, only really now realizing it themself. They were around so many people again. People could hurt. "Do you worry sometimes even with the way I am?"

Already dead, able to disappear, able to remove anyone's touch from their body by giving up their corporeality. As much of a relief as it was to Kyrie to know that, they hoped that removed some of the concern anyone else would have about them.

Sonic absolutely dressed up for Halloween. He's Batman. Bathedgehog? Bathog? Because of course he is. He looks so proud of his little costume. Cape flowing dramatically in the wind and everything.

"Trick or treat!!"

"Welcome! You can take a few." The snappily-dressed detective held out a plastic orange pumpkin, filled with small sealed packages of sour gummy worms and mini spicy chocolate bars.

"Try not to get pranked by the pixies today!"

"Do you think kids will even recognize what this costume is supposed to be?" they asked Ismael as they walked into the living room, adjusting the deerstalker cap on their head. The rest of the outfit made them up to look like a classic detective novel lead: bowtie, long coat, shoulder cape and all.

Indeed, what an odd question, especially coming from and directed to a stranger. Time to actually voice the thought he'd had earlier, then.

"I'm not actually sure what that would entail."

He seems to actually think deeply about this as he ponders it, clasping a hand over his chin.

Gender is over… does everyone become something that isn't male or female? What would that feel like? Does that come with physical changes? (He hasn't fully decoupled gender from physical sex in his mind.)

Does that mean anyone could do any gendered activity or wear any gendered clothing that they want without reproach? He's already seen some of this in this society - people are a lot more open about it. It implies to him that a lot of the danger inherent to being a man who's a tad too feminine doesn't exist here.

Maybe him being here isn't the worst thing? He's not sure why it took a stranger and a poster to make him reflect on this.

"…It sounds like it might be a good thing, though."

"I think so. Less to stress about... for yourself and for people looking at you. In the general sense of "you", I mean." They tilted their head.

"I'm nonbinary, personally, but if you saw me as a woman when you were coming out here, you wouldn't be the only one. If gender is over, then no one's making those split-second assumptions about me. I'm free. And so are you!" Kyrie briefly gave the stranger a thumbs up.

"Want to throw off "gender" today? You can put it back on tomorrow, like a familiar jacket."

👻 Perona couldn't stop herself from squeaking with surprise when Kyrie complimented her so brazenly! She ended up burying her face in their shoulder for a moment as she tried to keep pace with their steps, but eventually pulled herself together again. "...Do other people look at me? I've never really noticed, since your eyes are the only ones I'm ever paying attention to."

Those words were corny, but they did come naturally to her. There hadn't been a point since they had met that she had wondered if anyone else was looking at her. At least not in that way.

"So you should enjoy it! This dress is for you, not for anyone else. Horohorohoro!"

"Just for me?" It was hard to believe, but it was flattering. Having her close when she dove in out of embarrassment was comforting, too. "...I'm glad you still want to impress me. I hope it's for you too, though." Perona deserved to feel gorgeous even when the only eyes on her were her own.

"You do draw attention, at least more than me. No one harasses you, do they? I'm sure you can handle anything yourself, but... you always have me to help get someone off your case." A little invisible mischief never hurt. Much.

"I think out of all the seasons, autumn's right up there next to summer. Summer'll always be my first." And that was a fact that didn't plan on changing. It didn't change a hundred years ago and it was going to change now.

"You ever do that thing? Where you build a leaf fortress and run right into it?"

"Why's that?" Kyrie asked them, kicking their feet out on the park bench and crossing their legs at the ankles. "I think I like spring the best, but when the sun's up in autumn, it's really beautiful." Looking toward the clear sky now, they smiled faintly before returning their inquisitive attention to Indigo.

"I've never done that, no. How do you make a leaf fortress?"

ʚїɞ - That was quite the sudden switch up in expressions, but she supposed there were people like that. It could just be an effect of whatever was going on, too. When presented with the photo, Fern examined it for a moment.

"No, I don't think so. She's got the kind of appearance that I think would stand out in a crowd, so I'm sure I'd know if I'd seen her."

"Well, now you have!" They locked their phone and returned it to their pocket, beaming triumphantly.

"She's great, isn't she? I'm sure you're great too, but I don't really know you yet."
