Been reading a lot of the 60s X-Men comics and man, whatever Warren had going on with Jean and Scott is funny.

I just realized that Cyclops might be the least educated out of the o5… which seems crazy considering everyone thinks he’s a smartass, but it might be true. I assume he had some form of schooling at the orphanage, but I doubt it was at the level of the others’ schools, considering the orphanage was in the middle of Nowhere, Nebraska. And I doubt Sinister wanted Scott to be smart, considering the mental blocks he placed in his mind.

Bobby went to a school on Long Island, Jean was taught by Xavier and presumably more, Warren went to a fancy religious school, Hank is Hank. Scott grew up in an orphanage and then lived with Jack Winters when he was maybe 15-16 before meeting Xavier. (this is making me sad oh no)

Yes, he educated himself at the orphanage and all, but that’s certainly different from the things the others experienced. His awkwardness with the team and later social/relationship struggles make perfect sense considering he hadn’t gone to a proper school, literally had no long-term positive relationships in his life, and his general “unique personality” (autism).

Anyways, this came up cause I saw a fic of Scott tutoring Warren in the early days and realized that he didn’t have the qualifications to do that. I feel like he knows some history, a lot of geometry, and middle school basics for everything else. Idk it just got me thinking about the disconnect between his background and the others and how that affects how they interact.

#he's also the one with the least amount of options in general. even outside of the whole 'death star for eyes' thing.#He's not well educated and I sincerely doubt the Xavier school was accredited back when they 'graduated'.#he never went to university. he doesn't have family connections to fall back on outside of Xavier. he might still have a criminal record.#compare that to everyone else. Hank has a pretty good relationship with his family and is an actual genius + everyone knows it.#Bobby is an accountant which definitely takes a level of schooling + is a career that will pretty much always exist.#Jean went to college (I can't find a panel saying she finished but I think so) and she comes from a well-educated family that loves her.#She is also GOD which means that she doesn't really need to be concerned with the costs of living and stuff.#Warren is FUCKING WARREN. Extending further - Alex has a masters degree and Lorna a doctorate.#Scott by contrast has a high school diploma that probably doesn't even count and no connections outside of Xavier and he's #woefully unqualified in terms of previous careers and he has a criminal record and he has a TBI plus a billion other things #OH YEAH AND THE DEATH STAR IN HIS EYES #I always think back to that one X-Men First Class moment where everyone is talking about the future and everyone else can find #something they either want to do or can do. Scott can't muster up anything. Somebody eventually says he could be a lifeguard.#And it's clear Scott doesn't buy that idea.#He was a radio host at one point. He liked that. But radio is dead now. Video killed the radio star and so too did podcasts.#so even that career is gone now. plus he's a known name and enemy of several states and has only gotten MORE fucked up over time.#Being an X-Man is his only option. There is no 'after the war' for Scott. This is all he's got for a future.#One of my headcanons for why Xavier's will always goes to Scott is because Xavier knows that Scott has nothing after this.#That man definitely has like a ton of trusts with Scott as the beneficiary. His son will never be forced to live on the streets again.#I have so many thoughts on Xavier as a father but I will always believe that he genuinely loves Scott.#And he has to know that Scott has no future ahead of him (partially because of Xavier's own actions). So he always has money set aside.
