people in fanfiction are so good at identifying v specific smells. I literally struggle to identify vanilla when I’m sniffing a candle labelled “VANILLA” how are these kids getting woodsmoke, rain, mint, and a whiff of byronic despair from a fuckin tshirt
Once I read a fic where they were like “he tasted like” and I’m expecting the typical formula (1 cooking ingredient + 1 natural phenomenon + “something uniquely [character name]”) but instead they said “he tasted like mouth” and it was one of the greatest fic moments of my life

[Finally Finished the Piece, didnt turn out exactly as planned but i wanted to get it done [heres hoping there isnt any mistakes i didnt notice -_- ]]

So after re-playing Far Cry 5 for the 80th time, I had a bit of a thought come into my head.
When your getting ready to fight John and you’re at the chapel, a lot of people often wondered what John whispers to Nick.
A lot of people made theories that he had most likely threatened his wife and child. To be honest that makes the most sense. However, I’d like to argue that he did not threaten his family and in fact threatened to hurt the deputy. After analyzing a scene the biggest thing I noticed came after John finished whisperin to Nick.
It’s at this scene right here:
Now I’m only picking out bits and pieces but what I noticed in the scene, is that Nick looks at you specifically… not only that but it’s almost as if John turned his head towards you. Like he tried to look away but John turned his head with his hand. It makes sense for John to threaten Nick’s family, he’s probably done it to Nick multiple times already.
The deputy on the other hand is a different story.  The deputy brought back his plane, helped him protect his wife and unborn child, and he’s probably been traveling with them for a decent amount of time now. He would probably expect John to threaten his family. He would not expect John to threaten the deputy though.
Well! That’s just a theory, just something I thought of for fun. I think Ubisoft left it a secret for the players to guess on. :P
This is an interesting theory and, looking at the GIFs, I noticed something else.
Before turning his head to the right to look at the Deputy, Nick turns it to the left. It might be because he tried to look away or it could be because he looked at Jerome (and probably Mary May, who is behind John) before looking at the Deputy. Maybe John didn’t just threaten to hurt the Deputy but told Nick that all his friends in the room, all his loved ones would suffer if he stubbornly continued to resist. Plus, threatening to hurt the Deputy only works if they’ve already met Nick before and, for some players, this scene was their first encounter with him.
John’s whispered line is gibberish, the exact same in all languages, so they left what he says open to interpretation and only showed us Nick’s visible distress, which is interesting. But whatever he said, I don’t think he planned to follow through with his threat. In fact, he didn’t need to do anything except tell Nick precisely what he didn’t want to hear. He just had to figure out his “deepest, darkest fears” and show him he knew exactly what they were. It’s what John does and he probably knew it would be enough to convince Nick he had no choice but to say “Yes”.
And, indeed, it was enough.
