My mom is a big ‘teaser’, & she often gets bent out of shape when I flip out over her ‘teasing’. One day I was at my parents house & she was 'teasing’ & I flipped saying it isn’t funny & my Dad spoke up & said he hates teasing, it’s not funny & it’s mean. Boy did mom shut up.      Joel raised a brow at her and canted his head. “It’s just a MRI. I can’t go in with you,” he responded and looked over at a nurse. “But I will be right here when you come out, I promise.” And it was strange, really; this perfect stranger needing him – even if just for a moment.

     She stared at him and then looked down at her lap, getting incredibly quiet. “Please...” She whispered. She grabbed his hand now; tears in her eyes. “I... please... I’m terrified.” She whispered. She squeezed his hand tightly, before the nurse pulled her away from him into the MRI room.

      Drugs made people say some weird shit; Joel knew that better than most people. “Well, it’s only temporary. We need to make sure you don’t have a spinal injury before we can take it off. It’s just a precaution,” he responded. “And we’re going to need you to stay still until after we’ve run some tests. I promise it won’t take long,” he commented and raised his brow at the commentary, snickering a bit. “Maggie? Take her on up to MRI?”

     Charlotte looked over at Maggie, then reached out and grabbed his hand. “Don’t... I don’t... want to be alone.” She whispered. “Please... Doctor...” She looked down and then up. “Please?” She whispered a little desperately. Because in this childlike state, with the drugs in her system; she was terrified. IF anything bad happened to her... she didn’t have anyone to care.

     Joel looked at her and quirked a brow north; trying not to smile. “Yes, I am,” he responded and looked at her, reaching into his pocket for a light to make sure there was no brain damage. “I was and thankfully not, just a sprained wrist, thank you for worrying,” he said, a note of amusement in his tone.

     She stared at him for a long moment, then leaned forward towards him. “My neck only hurts because of this stupid thing.” She paused and reached up, going to remove it. “Jerry was going to kill me. He wasn’t happy I told him to take his little dick and shove it up his own ass.” She paused and giggled. “But he can’t even reach his own ass with that tiny thing.” She didn’t even know Jerry was now deceased; and that no one had really tried to save him. But then, she wouldn’t have cared.

      She reached out and poked his face. “Are you my Doctor?” She was drugged up, because she’d been in an accident and her neck was in a brace; they weren’t sure if it was broken, thus why he was in there. She poked him again. “You, you were the car my crazy ex decided to rush intooooo. I’m gllllllaaaaaaaad you’re not hurt.” He was on his way to the army base for that marine with a bomb in him and... well, Charlotte had been kidnapped by her psycho ex and... now they were here.
