Last Rainy Sunday of 2013
It's been a rainy Sunday in NYC. All my clients are off enjoying their vacation, and I am left trying to relax and kill some time. I started my day off baking a gluten-free, vegan banana bread. I followed this up by sitting on the couch and pretending to watch football with my husband and dog. All the sitting has started to hurt my back. Since the evening is quickly approaching, I decided now would be a great time to end my day with a little stretching.
Stretching on the foam roller is one of my favorite activities. The foam roller is such a versatile prop. I use it stretch or do Pilates on myself and also on my clients. Here is a great stretch that almost anyone can do. It's pretty fool proof. Lay the foam roller on a mat or carpet the long way. Take a seat at the every edge of the foam roller. Carefully roll down, aligning your spine with the length of the foam roller. Place your palms by your side, flat on the mat with knees bent and feet flat on the mat. Take a few long breaths here. Feel how your body melts on the foam roller. When ready, carefully roll side to side, massaging the muscles around your spine. It's that easy - you've got yourself a little self massage!
