How has Social Media Impacted Society?
Social Media has grown at a very rapid pace that many people are so intrigued with the concept and find themselves drawn into the capabilities it has to offer. Social Media can be used professionally for businesses marketing, public relations, advertising all the way down to personal use of keeping in touch with family and friends. When using Social Media professionally businesses may find themselves using it to seek potential employees, conduct a group meeting, and stay in contact with employees through e-mails or even group messaging for faster response. I use Social Media professionally for free advertising of my employment as well as staying in contact with my co-worker. When using Social Media personally, I tend to use it mostly for friends and family and staying in contact with them as daily life can kind of make that communication status lessen. Social Media has helped me stay in contact with family living in different cities through video call and the ability to share daily pictures and updates with Social Media accounts such as Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, etc. Social Media is so easy to use and at the fingertips of society that it is said â71% use Facebook daily for personal use, 33% use Google, 32% use Pinterest, 27% use Instagram, and 18% use Twitter (Tech & Learning, 2016). The percentage of usage might have gone up through the years. The lines have become a bit blurred when it comes to personal and professional to some people as Social media has taken over their life altogether. âOver the past few years, social media have sometimes erroneously been regarded as ready-to-use tools for citizens, rioters, journalists, and activists to bring about social changeâ (van Dijck and Poell, 2013). The changes made in the digital world has given the world an outlet to voice anything they wish with a simple post yet, this can be crucial to your professional profile as anyone can easily view what one uploads. Social Media has become a necessity that most people in society feel they need in order to continue staying connected with the world resulting in a multitude of daily activity that does not seem to be slowing down personally or professionally.
