A nice explanation as to what Midnight by Coldplay might mean in the context of LP6 by 'Sky-Pala'
At this point in time several things are fairly certain to me:
1) Midnight is not a single, and therefore is NOT the single that is (potentially) coming later this week.
2) Coldplay's website is currently in a state of transition between the previous and new era.
3) The first single, "Magic" is still out there, and will most likely happen this week. Why?
Because, first and foremost, the website linked here a couple of days ago was right-- they knew something was happening this week. Granted, Magic hasn't been released yet, but the fact that Midnight ISN'T a single (it's not a single because there is: A. no way to download or purchase it, B. Coldplay has referred to it as a "new song," not a single, and last but not least; C. there is/was no advertising of it, and the song itself is the exact opposite of what a single is or should be) tells me that there's more to this song than meets the eye and also to expect the imminent release of "Magic" within the coming days/ week.
In my opinion, "Midnight" is several things:
1) A preview for fans to see what to expect for LP6
2) A hint that something bigger is coming in the imminent future.
This seems fairly obvious to me. There is nothing out there that explains what Midnight is-- their website is blank except for the youtube video, the youtube description has literally NO information besides the director and a link to their (blank) website. They also haven't tweeted any explanation for the video or any album or any downloading info since the initial video tweet. This leads me to the next point.
3) An intro/ segway of sorts leading up to the imminent first single, "Magic"
Magic WILL be released in the coming days/ this week. This is because, first and foremost, they can (and will) not keep millions of their fans and followers in the dark for longer than a week to several days. If the release of a single was not imminent, then they would have been sure to explain what Midnight was, today, on twitter, after the link was shared at the least. Also, they won't leave both the website (and the youtube description with the link TO the site) blank and without change for more than a couple of days at the maximum. People will not understand what is going on, let alone be able to access their site for the resources that it previously held such as oracle and the online store.
From those three points we can now assume:
1) Magic will be released within the next couple days to a week
2) Both songs MUST go hand in hand (why release a song like Midnight after all)
The reason that they released Midnight, then, is that the song holds both an importance to the album as a whole and to the upcoming single Magic.
How does Midnight support Magic? On the album, it makes sense to me that Midnight is the song leading up to Magic and that the songs go hand in hand.
However, Midnight to me sounds like THE PERFECT opening of an album. And what better way to introduce the next era of that album by releasing the opening song of the album in a video? It really is the perfect idea, and the next logical step would be to release the corresponding single on the album, Magic (which would be the second track) immediately following this genius introduction.
The final piece if the puzzle then, would be WHY? WHY make the first intro song 5 minutes long? WHY give it it's own video (despite it's relationship with the song magic)? After all, the band can't just go ahead and release just ANY segway/transition song or for that matter release ALL the non singles on the album.
The answer to me is that "Midnight" is in fact the TITLE track of LP6. In other words, the album is CALLED "Midnight" And the song Midnight would then play a similar role in LP6 as the opening/title track of Mylo Xyloto, which also bore the albums name.
Thoughts?
TL;DR:
Because of Midnight's unique sound and the fact it is not a single, yet there will soon be one (Magic), Midnight is potentially both the opening track and title of LP6.
