Another day, another long shift - working out of the key ambulance hubs here. When we’re not providing logistical support we’re on blue-light runs in response to COVID-19.

Transgender synth pioneer, Wendy Carlos (1939). She composed the TRON soundtrack—one of my favorites actually, with its unusual love theme and perfectly placed electronic action beats. She also composed music for A CLOCKWORK ORANGE and THE SHINING. Much more commercially successful though was SWITCHED-ON BACH (1968).
On the topic of her gender transition, she said,
“The public turned out to be amazingly tolerant or, if you wish, indifferent... There had never been any need of this charade to have taken place. It had proven a monstrous waste of years of my life.”
There’s a lesson to be learned there. How many times do we put off or abandon doing something because of what other people might think? And how often does it turn out that these other people have their own problems to worry about and don’t really care anyway? We’re always performing for a highly-critical, invisible audience it seems—or not even performing, just waiting anxiously in the dressing room.
Although for some wholesome content:
Since I'm stuck away from family, me and my Mum have been learning BSL together and at the end of the week, we teach each other a sentence that we have learnt.
This was just before I got deployed to one of NHS Nightingale Hospitals...
I’m here for the next two months now - ultimately deciding amongst me and my three other colleagues covering 24/7 in 14/15 hour shifts on who gets what doctor & what resource. That’s very taxing. We’re all volunteering and our HCP status is on the line (rather selfishly in retrospect). I see names but I can’t help but think what if I saw one of my friends’ or families names on that list?
I really don’t want to scare monger, but please. Yes, the weather is really warm and sunny...It’s very tempting to go out - especially with the bad weather we’ve had for months.
But please - stay in. Facetime - even text. Oh and no, going between your boyfriend/girlfriends families isn’t “isolating”. Nor is inviting everyone around for a barbeque.
