LANDING A JOB VIA FACEBOOK OR TWITTER
At this day and age, social media is providing us and incredible amount of access. Everyone seems to be on either Facebook or Twitter, or both. CEOs, HR, Managers, and all of their employees use it on a regular basis. The two platforms will allow you to directly communicate with those people by sending them personal messages, as oppose to online job postings wherein you cannot. Not to mention, you are applying with hundreds or thousands of applicants.
Here are few tips to be noticed by companies on Facebook or Twitter:
CREATE AN ACCOUNT
For Facebook, use your real name. For Twitter, keep your twitter ID formal and professional if you can’t completely use your real name. The details in your profile should reflect and tell people what you do. Make sure that your page is easily seen.
MAKE THE PROFILE PUBLIC
The main objective of creating a separate profile is to set up an account that would best propel you to meet people connected to your next potential job, making your profile private contradicts this. It should be in “Public” at all times, so that keywords in your posts will appear in search engines once it is searched. Especially in Twitter, where recruiters could use hashtag searches in the search function to look for applicants
ADD or FOLLOW PEOPLE / COMPANIES THAT WORK IN YOUR INDUSTRY
Interacting with people who are already in-line with your desired industry would help you acquire some needed knowledge and information—workload, culture, etc. There’s also a chance that you would discover various job opening that are not posted anywhere online.
POST / TWEET CONSISTENTLY
Adding / following people are step 1 on being noticed. Being active and posting consistently is step 2. It is important they see and read your posts every day but don’t flood the feeds. Meaning, don’t post rapidly—4 or 5 per day is the max.
Social media has created a life of its own and opened up a lot of things in communication. It’s only right that we take advantage of those. Everyone is making something out social media… let’s land a job out f it!
