Raw surveillance footage of Canadian murderer Luka Magnotta, entering his apartment building with victim Lin Jun, a Chinese international student. Moments after entering the building, Magnotta recorded himself stabbing Lin repeatedly with an ice-pick and kitchen knife, before dismembering his body and performing acts of necrophilia. Magnotta also mailed Lin’s body parts to schools and federal political party offices.
• May 24, 2012: Lin was heard from the very last time; friends reported receiving a text from him around 9 pm. Lin’s boss became suspicious and worrisome after realizing that he didn’t show up for his shift at work the next day.
• May 25, 2012: An 11-minute video titled 1 Lunatic 1 Ice Pick was uploaded on Bestgore.com. The video depicted Magnotta’s brutal killing and dismemberment of Lin Jun. Authorities discovered a longer version of the video and reported cannibalism may have been performed.
• May 26, 2012: A Montana attorney made an effort to report the video to Toronto authorities, Montana Sheriff’s Office, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, however, the report was dismissed by officials. Law enforcement later realized the video was 100% authentic and Lin Jun was identified.
• May 29, 2012: A package containing Lin’s left foot was delivered to the national headquarters of the Conservative Party of Canada; the package was stained with blood, had a putrid odor to it, and was marked with a heart symbol. A separate package containing a left hand was found in a Canada Post processing facility, specifically addressed to the Liberal Party. Also, a janitor found a decomposing torso inside a suitcase that was left in the alley behind an apartment complex. After a further investigation, footage from inside the complex showed a suspect bringing garbage bags outside, and these images matched the same suspect who was caught on video at the post office. Police searched the apartment that was being rented and used by Magnotta. Traces of blood were discovered on various items including the mattress, refrigerator, table, and bathtub.
• May 30, 2012: The body parts recovered were officially identified as Lin Jun. Also, the suspect was identified as Luka Magnotta, who immediately went on the run before authorities could bring him into custody.
• June 5, 2012: A package containing a right foot arrived at St. George’s School and another package containing a right hand to False Creek Elementary School in Vancouver, British Columbia.
• June 13, 2012: The four limbs and torso discovered were positively matched to Lin Jun by utilizing DNA samples from his family.
• June 4, 2012: Magnotta was taken into custody by Berlin Police at an Internet café in the Neukölln district while reading news stories about himself.
• June 18, 2012: Magnotta was handed over to Canadian authorities located in Berlin. He was then was flown into Canada, and was placed into solitary confinement Rivière-des-Prairies detention center.
• July 1, 2012: Lin Jun’s head was discovered near a small lake in Montreal’s Angrignon Park after law enforcement received an anonymous tip.
• July 11, 2012: Lin Jun was cremated.
• July 26, 2012: Lin Jun’s ashes were buried at Notre Dame des Neiges Cemetery in Montreal.
