 â  someone better fucking kill me if I start sittinâ on porches like some ole southern woman . people have been delusional all their lives âŠÂ this world isnât gonna be any different . theyâll believe what they wanna believe  &  thatâs the end of that . they paint it all pretty then pretend itâs hope .  â
He laughs a little at that. âDonât know how you can paint...â He makes a gesture with his hands, pointing around himself. âThis to look pretty. Donât know âbout you but zombies eatinâ folks ainât very pretty in my mind. Ainât nothinâ hopeful cominâ outta this and I donât know how anyone could THINK it could.â

@gutspilt / starter!
âWeâre jusâ playinâ out the string, man. Everyone is, really. Ainât no way itâs ever gonna go back to the way it was, yâknow.â
What happened to wife 1, 2 and 3
Heâs quick to snort, a little amused by the question. âWant me to go down the list, huh? Alright. Pull up a chair, man.â He takes a deep breath, taking the time to remember. âFuck, I donât know. When the outbreak happened, I tried callinâ âem all separately. Now I ainât gonna act like I held some great level of love towards âem all but they got my kids. Gotta make sure theyâre alright, you know?âÂ
He pulls his smoke out of his mouth and crushes it into a make-shift ash-tray. âAnyway, everyone knows the phones werenât workinâ. Everyone knows how bad shit was, and still is, but that ainât the point. Point is, I couldnât reach any of my ex-wives.â He laughs a little, though itâs a bitter laugh. âI thought about loadinâ up my pick-up truck and drivinâ to save my kids anâ my ex-wives. Cross-country road-trip. Man, what was I fuckinâ smokinâ? Yeah, I ainât no hero. Ainât no fuckinâ hero.â He rubs his eyes for a second, before continuing. âI reached the outskirts of Houston, my first ex-wife lived there. ShitâŠshit was bad, man. My brother anâ me, we had this plan, see, we were gonna race in and rescue my ex-wife anâ kids and get on to the next one but the city was fuckinâ infested.â
Heâs quick to continue after taking a momentary breather, âWhatever ideas we had about beinâ heroesâŠthey disappeared. Iâm a mechanical engineer, not a fuckinâ cop, not a soldier. I donât have any fuckinâ combat skills. Shit was so badâŠâ He trails off for a second, the memory clearly uncomfortable but he shakes it off and continues. ââŠWe turned in the other direction and sped off. Everyone cominâ out of that city was either infected or dead. I hope she got them out but I donât fuckinâ know. We scrapped our plan of rescue either way. No way we could do it. Iâm not a fuckinâ hero, and I hope my ex-wives got out safe but I doubt it.â He laughs again, exhaling somewhat sharply afterward. âLong story short? No fuckinâ idea, friend.â
