Dream

This is me, sitting in the captain seat of British Airways Airbus 320. To me this picture holds a reminder of what I dream to do for a living - a professional pilot.

We all have dreams when we were young - policemen, firemen, at a push, baker. Remember the time when you got asked what you want to be when your grown up?

Well yeah of course I remember when I got asked that question, to be honest, I didn't answer it, cos I didn't know what I wanted to be.

Bottom line is, I love flying.

We all have something that we love to do, something that helps us escape from the world just for a while and just be yourself, collect your thoughts, analysis it, come to conclusion and then its time to apply it to the real world.

Fate can be cruel sometimes, for me, fate decided that I will be born deaf, a "hidden" disability. So what can you do, nothing but accept it and make the best out of it.

Now to be a professional pilot, you have to pass a medical from the CAA (governing body of UK's airspace), its pretty through, testing all on visual, hearing, breathing and blood. Now since I'm deaf and I use a cochlear implant, and I had, what, 22 years of training to put myself at equal playing field with normal hearing people. Its not perfect, but its the best I can get close to having an actual working ears with all the parts included.

But after many letters and evidences from my audiology and hospital, the CAA said they appreciated how well I can hear but its a disqualifying condition that prevents me from becoming a professional pilot. Just because I naturally miss out sounds/words due to my deafness

So what do you do?

Accept it?

Argue it?

Put it to one side and hope to try again in the future?

I choose the latter one

It just like Brian Blessed, you know, that 76 year old guy with a BOOMING voice, you would have heard the voice of your satnav perhaps, a well established actor. This guy is training to be a cosmonaut with the Russian space agency, done 800 hours of training in space flight, and he is a 1st reserve to go on the ISS next year.

Kids need a hero. Courageous, self-sacrificing people. Setting examples for all of us. Everybody loves a hero. People line up for them, cheer them, scream their names. And years later, they'll tell how they stood in the rain for hours just to get a glimpse of the one who taught them how to hold on a second longer. I believe there's a hero in all of us, that keeps us honest, gives us strength, makes us noble, and finally allows us to die with pride, even though sometimes we have to be steady, and give up the thing we want the most. Even our dreams.

Hurray I got chickenpox

Yep, never had it before and chosen to strike me down when I'm 21, I'm currently 3 days in with spotty body and face, here to 4 more days til I can leave the house :) also I laid off the solid food and currently living on angel delights and jelly, who said having chickenpox was that bad, apart from sleepless nights, constant temperature changes and sore throat after endless coughing. Messages of get well soon will be appreciated :)

Top 10 ways to get along with others <3

At the lesson today I had at National Chambers of Commerences, we briefly talked about stereotyping. Mostly it was basical common ones like, girls cant drive etc.

But I have heard stories that really caught my attention,

One of them was this guy who my tutor knows, now, hes average joe, just like me, one day he was in the gym for a session, so he came out drenched, with trackies with socks over them and a hoodie, he was walking past the bus stop, where my tutor saw him, as he walked past, an old lady who was sitting down, said "oh, whats a disgrace drug addict guy"

What she done there, is taken a snapsnot of the person and made some judgement based on what she saw in modern day society with chavs wearing hoodies and trackies with socks over them.

Its the same with deaf people.

If you saw 2 people walking down the street, ones in a wheelchair, and one is deaf. Your human brain will automatically say the one in a wheelchair is disabled, cos hes "not-able" to walk, but what it fails to see is that the deaf person is also disabled, this is because the implant is "hidden", its not noticeable and therefore the person automatically assume thats hes able-bodied....

Just be cautious next time before jumping into the wrong conclusion.

You done it again!

The afternoon bus I was on, felt its back suspension was knackered as the bus was bumping up and down about 5 times before settling down... My back feels like it was on the verge of packing it in.

Why dont you invest in, well i dunno, comfortable buses?

Buses

My daily rant...

Buses are by defination, utter shite

It takes me just over an hour to get the bus from Brotton to Middlesbrough, yes I do have a car, I could have taken the train (in fact today I did, costs me £4.60 return and it taken me 25 mins) plus trains are nicer and roomer and doesnt stop often.

The bus route from Brotton to Middlesbrough consists of, leaving Brotton, heading toward Skelton and then Guisborough heading to Middlesbrough Ormesby Bank and then a little wiggle pointlessly into Borough Road and finally pulling in the bus station. The total duration of this miserable jorney, 1hr. Yes thats ONE hour of my life wasted by sitting on the smelly bus with HARDLY comfortable seats and looking outside.

So Arriva, if your reading this, group ur bus stops in one gobally stop, rather having the bus which stops every 500 yards, combine the 2 together so the bus stops less :) Also get your buses on one road rather having buses that converges onto the same road.

Girlfriend

I have been single for 21 years, and I am 21 years old

The simple reason is that, I didnt have enough time or enough interest in girls since secondary school. I was so focused on my school work and getting thro the day without being bullied was the ulimate aim, in those time, not ever the thought of spending some time with someone who truly want to spend her time with me. Ofc I had some school crushes, but they were quickly brushed aside, I had my heart broken many times, so many times I lost count.

Another reason is, Im shy. Thats the fear. In all of my life I always related to someone who I know and met. But the thought of going to a complete stranger in a bar or anywhere and to start a simple conversion, thats where I struggle. Where do I start, What do I talk about, Is she gonna like me back? Its simply mind over body really.

Maybe one day I will finally break this hurdle, but until then I will remain single. By the way, I am kinda sick of waiting, maybe I should go and find her...

Music of the night

As I wonder what to write for my next post,

Since you all know about my love for aviation, I do have another love, musicals

Like some celebrities, for an example, Matt Lucas have admit he fell in love with musicals when he was a young age. He also said that he used it as an escape when he was having problems with health. Thats the magic of musicals, as soon you see one on stage or film, it makes u feel comfortable inside the bubble and all the worries melts away. I can safely say that I do belong in that minority that absoulte adore musicals. I can almost relate any musical songs to my life. In fact any song can relate to anyone's life. Well only if you suddenly burst into song in the middle of a busy shopping street, you will get plenty of people staring at you, but thats part of any musicals, you see a scene going on with some dialogue as normal, and suddenly the few opening bars of the song can be heard and one of the actors start singing songs that explains its feelings for people, objects etc. Its all down to the songwriters, they are the braingenius of combining song and music to bring the stage/film come to life. Rodgers and Hammerstein are proberly one of the most well known, if not famous, songwriter duo, this works purely down to each wonderful talent in songwriting and song composing.

"Turn your face away from the garish light of day

Turn your thoughts away from cold unfeeling light

And listen to the music of the night"

I must say this 3 lines of a song does send chills down your spine when you hear the Michael Crawfords brilliant and dark voice in the hit show Phantom of the Opera. Which is undoubtly my favourite musicals of all time.

Today

Today I went to SARA Foxrush farm. I have been there every monday since October. SARA (Saltburn Animal Rescue association) rescue dogs and cats and rehome them. Foxrush farm marks the next step from being an animal lover rescuers who had their homes full of cats and dogs. Now cats and dogs go to this farm where there is a mutli-purpose kennels and cattery. The organistation is a volunteer based, so I volunteer myself to give the dogs walks (one in the morning and one in the afternoon), I am a dog-lover so I walk a different vareity of dogs ranging from staffies, patterdales, german shepherd which is lovely change from walking my own dog, doesnt mean I love my dogs less than I do to the ones in the kennels, I love them all equally...

2012

Here we go, another year.

So what can I expect from 2012?

A job, simply as that, I have been unemployed since September after learning that I wont be returning to university to study further. As sitting at home on my bum might sound attractive, but after a while it does get boring, and finding nothing esle to do, your brain and body are slowly rotting away. I am still hunting jobs, but to no avail, cant find a one where employers are seriously interested in employing me. The market for jobs nowadays are generally poor after we spiralled into recession and businesses saving what ever they can.

However I am grateful that I still got family and friends still with me at the start of 2012. That what counts.

Oh there is one thing which I am not looking forward to, Olmypics 2012, I just know our opening ceremony is going to be crappier than china's

Arrived at Palma De Mallorca

Not really, well I just arrived at Palma on the flight simulator software that I had on my PC. I flew the 757-200 from Glasgow, flew over UK, France before decending over the med. There is something special about the island that makes me wanna visit there again and again.

There is a quirky windmills that I saw when I went to the island for the 1st time, as the plane approaches the airport, under the flightpath, there was old windmills that I can see outside the plane window, it was beautiful, and I am pleased to say that the flight simulator scenery does have the windmills.

Better get ready for the return trip back to Glasgow
