A box is left where he can find it, wrapped simply with a light blue bow and darker blue paper. Attached to the bow is a small notes, which only reads “I’m sorry.” Inside the box are a few sugar cookies with green frosting.
— lilyberman-tar
Cody picked up the box as he hobbled from the room out into the hallway, about to take a small walk to the cafeteria. While he mainly stayed to his room to heal lately, he was more than aware that he couldn't lay around the rest of his life and while he still felt the soreness that would be expected from such torment he had been through, magical assistance to help heal aside, he was at least able to get around. Still, as he bent to pick up the box, he winced before standing up, a pain in his chest thankfully desipitating as he straightened again and opened the box, reading the note with more than a bit of confusion before noticing the cookies and faltering again. Cookies weren't something to be trusted he had learned...but it was a kind gesture nonetheless. "Um,Thanks." he said, glancing up and down the hallway as if the gift bearer would still be present. As he closed his door behind him he had to question what the person was sorry for...
Fun Fact: (aka behind the scenes)
Grell needed someone to torture so I gave her Cody because he's been dead pretty much for months anyway. That's not the fun fact
The fun fact is that I gave her completely free range. I had no preknowledge of anything she was going to do to Cody. She was even allowed to kill him if she so wanted.
I sat here going "oh..." repeatedly whenever she answered, not talking to her at all before hand what she would be doing, but she would randomly ask me questions over MSN about Cody and stuff.
Like "Is he wearing a shirt? how about shoes? What's the name of that thing that farmers use to mark their cows?"
Those things didn't bode well for him in my mind but I still had no clue as to what she would do...and I'm alright with that. She did a great job in my mind.
I don't know why I wrote this.
But man...the second she asked about the branding iron I was like "oh fuck"
Not Another One.
“Oh n-no…” Lily winced as she took in the poor boy’s damaged form, her eyes filling with tears. She shook her head, watching him twitch and hoping against hope that it was just a death rattle again, but knowing it wasn’t. He was so much worse than the last one, he shouldn’t be alive, but here he was, letting out delirious whimpers and groans of pain. The fox took a step forward and bent down to look at his face. Why were they always so young?
Lily shook her head, and pulled an old blanket from her bag, draping it over him before she put on her own gloves. She swallowed down her nausea and practically chewed through her lip. “I-I’m so s-s-sorry.” She whispered, even though he probably couldn’t hear her. Reaching up, she carefully pulled the needle from first one hand, then then other, and then untied him. Pausing to breathe when she came to his feet, she forced herself through the feeling of dizziness, and sniffled, squeezing her eyes shut. She undid the ties on his feet, and caught him through the blanket, gagging as she caught the smell of blood.
The fox quickly pulled him from the pool of blood, and scooted away from him, her hair falling in her face as she retched to the side, her hands clenching into fists as her stomach emptied itself forcefully.
She forced herself back over to pull him out of the barn, and looked around at all the animals. After gathering up and cleaning Grell’s tools, it was a simple thing to set the building on fire and make sure the animals got out. all it took was a convenient rock that went through the farmer’s bedroom window. She shifted and returned to the spot where she had hid the boy, before cutting the tape away from his head, careful as she pulled it off his hair. She crooked her finger behind the rag in his mouth and pulled it out, scrunching her nose distastefully at the state it was in. She tossed it away.
Shortly after, she silently deposited him into a bed in the infirmary, frowning at the brand. That would most definitely scar. Lily shook her head and smoothed the blond locks back from his head, a deep frown on her face. “I-I’m s-sorry.” She said again, before retreating back out of the infirmary, knocking over a shelf on her way out to alert the people inside of the new presence.
After a few more minutes of just holding the brand in place before she peeled it away and dropped the metal to the floor, splashing the blood onto her boots. She looked down at the droplets with a sneer, and looked back up at Cody angrily. “Do you see what your fucking bleeding did?” Her hand tangled in his hair and she yanked his head down, forcing him to look at the tiny mess on her boots. “You fucking messed up my boots! Look at it!” Her knee came up and she heard a crunch as it connected with his face, breaking his nose. After a moment, she released his hair and stepped back, looking him over with a sneer. Shaking her head, she pulled her hair back, making sure it was back over her shoulders. “That’s it. I’m done.” Without another word, she pulled out her favorite knife and brandished it in front of his face. After a moment of allowing the light to glint on the blade, she adjusted her grip and drove it into his thigh, twisting it for a moment before yanking it out. She repeated the process, higher up, before finally driving it into his abdomen with a snarl, blood splattering onto her face and across her shirt. “Fucking hell.” She growled, wiping her face and shaking her hand as if the blood that fell on her was tainted. “She looked at him, watching the increasingly weak way he held himself, before sneering. “Lily’ll be here soon to clean this up.” She said quietly, as if he was already dead. Without another sound, she grabbed her things, leaving the tools behind. Lily would grab them. “Bye, Fishstick.” She said, finally regaining her smile as she laughed. “Have fun in hell.”
Reacting wasn't much of an option by this point. He stared blearily through nearly closed eyes towards her boots, not understanding what he was supposed to be looking at, the words of hatred sounding as if they were coming from a great distance away and warped and muffled. He allowed her to move him however she wished, all fight gone and giving into his fate now, far too gone to even care about the overwhelming pain that overtook his skull as it came into contact with her knee. Blood found itself spilling front his nostrils and dripping to the floor to join the ever growing pool that now surrounded him. He hung limply from the post, chest constricting again as he struggled to even breathe. More blood left him as his thighs were stabbed and then his abdomen, pulling a low groan from his core. He finally gave into gravity fully, his body falling heavily, the ropes digging into his wrists and the needles ripping at the hands they were delved into, keeping his arms up as he slumped, his feet sliding as he lost his traction. He hung limply, swaying slightly from side to side as the warlock walked away, staying silent as he faded in and out.
Dropping the pliers, Grell grinned up at his expression and reached to lift his chin to look at her better. “Come on, no, Fishstick, I’m not done yet. You can’t give up yet.” She stood, lifting his face to keep it on her. She looked over at the fire, and grinned wider. “Looks like that’s done.” She said to herself, but looked back to him, making sure he was focused enough for this. She dropped his chin and made sure he watched as she moved back to the burning coals, and she grabbed a glove that she found nearby . She pulled it on and grabbed the heated metal, pulling it from the coals and spinning it with relish. She looked over at him, making sure he was paying attention to what she was doing. After a moment of just spinning it, she approached him again, her eyes gleaming with sadistic pleasure. “I’m going to cut this brand from your body.” She said, her voice deadly quiet, but loud enough for him to hear. She pointed the brand at him, putting it close enough for him to feel the heat as she decided where to burn him. She moved it around, checking all the spots, and grinned as she put it over his heart. It hovered for a moment, before she pushed it forcefully against his skin, holding it in place for a long time. She adjusted her grip and pushed harder, taking a deep breath as the smell of burning skin filled the air. Her expression smoothed out, a pleased smile on her face as she relaxed to one of her favorite smells.
Consciousness began to get progressively more difficult to keep a grasp on as the blood continued to pool around his feet and drip from from his torso and hands. The ground beneath the merman's feet seemed to dip and sway as he stared towards it, his legs wobbling dangerously as they nearly refused to keep his weight upright. Fighting through the haze came the voice that cut just as sharply as the blade that had made Cody its cutting board prior in the evening. The young man tried to focus on her words, but they muddled together into a cloud of sounds that he felt weren't very good, even just from hearing the tone of her voice. He kept dulled aquas on her through heavy lids, the brand keeping his wavering attention as it got closer and he instinctively tried to back away, lifting his chin and turning his face to hide against his shoulder the best he could. He was tired and as she inspected his body for the perfect branding spot, he allowed his eyes to slip shut. Maybe if he just closed his eyes, this would all go away. It would be a nightmare and he would just wake up in a coldsweat, heart racing for a minute or two, but then everything would be normal and he could just go back to sleep and dream of something nice to make up for all this. Just...dream something nicer. A soft hum built at the back of his throat as his body began to lax against the stall, the needles in his hands tugging as he nearly slipped downwards towards the floor again. He was very nearly passed out when the brand pushed to his skin, a whole new level of pain driving on through all the previous layers he had been sure was the most he could feel. He stared unseeingly into the darkened corner of the barn as his body twisted and the smell of his own burning flesh made him gag and nearly retch. He continued to squirm under the heated metal as it was pushed deeper, making sure to brand him, if he should survive, forevermore. A friendly reminder of what had been, if there ever was one.
Grell smiled at her work, flicking the needles a couple times to make sure they would stay in place. She looked down at the pile of tools, noting a few drops of blood on the ones closest to the blond boy. The redhead’s eyes moved to his feet, noticing that they were bare, and she arched her eyebrow. Kneeling down, she put her hand to her chin, pursing her lips in thought. After a few seconds, she dug through her tools and grabbed a pair of pliers. “Fish shouldn’t have toenails. They don’t even have toes.” She laughed darkly as she used the pliers to grab the nail on his biggest toe, and yanked, ripping it out of the skin and watching the blood well up. “This little piggy went to market…” She said to herself, as she put the pliers under the second toenail. “This little piggy stayed home.” The second nail dropped into the blood. “This little piggy had roast beef…” The third. “This little piggy had none.” The fourth. Grell pouted as the pliers were unable to fit under the last nail, and she dropped them in favor of the needle-nose pliers. “And this little piggy” She murmured to herself, forcing the pliers under the nail painfully “cried ‘whee, whee, whee’” She paused, a grin taking over her face. “all the way home!” She ripped out the nail with relish, and dropped it into the ever growing puddle of blood.
Of course she would move to the feet. Of course. Cody shuffled his feet a bit in another weak attempt at making it more difficult for the warlock to mess with them. Still, he knew it was all in vain as they were secured, pliers taking firm grasp of his nail and the pain only increasing with any attempt to squirm from their hold. Digging his heels into the dirty floor, Cody tried to prepare himself for the pain that was inevitably about to be thrust upon him. He squeezed his eyes shut tightly, locking up his muscles and gritting his teeth as his nail was yanked from its bedding, warm blood oozing from where it had once connected to the flesh and pooling in the crevice of the nailbed before making the floor its new home. He shook his head again before digging his chin into his chest, keeping his mouth clenched shut despite the sounds of pain that could be heard vaguely around the rag and ducttape that made sure no one save for the closest of beings, better known as Grell for all extensive purposes, could hear them. Though he was sure she was relishing in every squeak and trembling whimper that he released into the air. He could feel his throat turning raw with the effort to be heard by anyone whatsoever. He had no idea where he was. He could easily be miles away from town or the schools or anywhere....Was he even on the same island? Clearly he was to anyone reading this, but the merman had no reference, nothing to give him any indication as to how far he'd been dragged from home. But maybe it didn't matter how close he was to any other person because as long as they were still out of hearing distance, he might as well have been in the deepest, most isolated place Grell could've found. So, with that awful thought in mind, Cody turned his face back up to give a glazed stare towards the redhead, cheeks wet with hot tears, blood dripping down his torn flesh and soaking into the tattered remains that was once his clothing, and eye nearly swelling shut from where he'd been smacked. With his good eye he blinked away a new wave of tears that blurred the image of the person who had done all this with great delight, the thought of what she wanted from him still sticking vaguely in the back of his mind as he slumped against the stall, looking and feeling very much broken and defeated.
Even if she had left him ungagged, there was no humanity to get to in Grell. It had all been eaten away from her at a young age, and now she delighted in every drop of blood, every little whimper he released into that gag. It made her shiver in delight. She looked down at the blood pooling slowly on the floor, and smiled to herself, sliding the tip of her finger along the needle as she moved close to him. “I wonder what happened to turn you into this pathetic shell. It was probably something stupid. It doesn’t take much to break a little fish like you.” She laughed, enjoying her little game grabbing his hand, using the fingers to press it back against the wood it was tied to. She positioned the needle in the center of his hand and looked at his face. “I bet you’d taste delicious all fried up. Like a fish stick.” She laughed again and drove the needle through his hand and into the wood behind it. She repeated the process with his other hand, talking all the while about everything she could think of.
His jaw tightened as she spoke to him, each word gnawing at him slowly. He was vaguely aware of the fact that she was trying to get to him psychologically, but there was nothing he could really do about that, no more so than he could do about the fact that he was being restrained physically as well. As the warlock began fiddling with his hands, Cody tried to keep them balled up into fists. He couldn't really run, but he could at least make the process more difficult for the redhead. Still, it did little good as his fingers were manipulated and the needle was quickly driven through his hand, pulling yet another, much louder, cry from him. The sound slipped around the rag in wrecked sobs of pain and tears readily streamed down his cheeks, adding to the ever present layer of sea salt that existed upon his skin. Her words did nothing but drive the pain deeper into his being, adding insult to injury many times. She was enjoying this far too much. What more could she do?
Grell watched as her words sunk into the boy’s mind and chuckled to herself. “And I’m sure even that roommate of yours will barely notice that you’re gone.” She laughed out loud, standing back up. Without warning, the blade slashed across his chest, cutting deep into his skin. She watched the blood drip down, staining his shorts, and smiled to herself as she pushed her fingers against the wound, her nails digging in. After a moment of tearing through the wound, she pulled back, allowing him a moment to breathe as she licked one of her fingers, her nose scrunching at the taste. “Ugh.” She spit the blood out onto his chest, sneering at him. “You taste like fish. Disgusting.” She dropped the scythe and squatted down to the ground, looking at all her tools and weapons before finally picking up what looked to be a branding tool. She lifted up, showing it to him before smacking it across the face with it. “This is just in case you survive.” She said, standing again and starting a fire. After a moment, she laughed as she watched the flames. “Who am I kidding, you won’t live. This is just because I think it would be fun.” She looked over at him, the fire dancing in her bright yellow eyes, and went back to the pile of tools as the metal heated up. She lifted a long thin piece of metal that ended in a sharp point, looking like a knitting needle.
A scream was muffled by the rag as his flesh was slashed into and blood ran down his body, random drips making their ways to the floor, the crimson mixing with the dirt and hay that littered the barn. The blonde's breathe hitched once again as sharpened nails dug further into his already ripped chest which rose and fell shallowly as he found it hard to remember how to properly take oxygen air in, the pain taking over all other thoughts that may've been present. He barely had time to see what was being held before him before it was smacked across his face, his head falling forward as he let out a whimper, allowing himself to express the pain instead of pushing it down as he would prefer. A bruise almost immediately began to show itself, the flesh turning a dark sickly shade as he hung his head, shaggy sunbleached hair falling over his eyes as he coughed into the rag again, his frame shaking, legs wobbling as he threatened to slump to the ground, and he would've if the ropes weren't keeping him up somewhat. As the fire was built and Grell went to her bag of tools, Cody finally returned his attention to her actions, muscles tightening as the threat returned. Fire. Fire was never good. He eyed the needle, shaking his head again, making the world spin. Why had he skipped breakfast? Why had be allowed himself to slip into this melancholy that zapped him of energy? energy he so desperately could use at this time. Why had he even allowed himself to wander so far away from the safety of the school? Why did he allow himself to stay out later than necessary? Why did he do so many things...He just didn't have the answers as the questions buzzed inside his head.
He shook his head slowly, tears welling up again as he stared towards the heated up metal. He would've said so many things in this moment. He would've argued and begged, and he hated to beg, and he would've tried to get to her good side. She had to have some sense of humanity right? But none of that mattered as his choked sobs were all but silenced by the fabric that nearly suffocated him. All he could do was watch and wait, knowing that no one was coming to save him. Miracles were only for those who deserved them.
Grell turned her eyes on him, a smile on her face. “Oh, don’t look like that, it’s not something you did.” She pouted her lips around the smile, and cupped his face, putting the scythe still in her hand dangerously close to his face. “You were just so convenient. Already dead inside, so might as well make it official.” She ruffled his hair, and the tip of the scythe lightly scratched his cheek. “I don’t think anyone will miss you very much.” Her eyes sparkled with excitement. “Not that it makes no nevermind to me. You just made it so easy.” It was obvious that Grell’s brain was deteriorating, causing the psychosis caused by a cancer she didn’t remember anymore to be far more obvious than it should be. She laughed lowly to herself and hooked the scythe in the collar of his shirt, pulling it down and scratching his torso down the middle as she ripped the fabric easily. She watched as a small bit of blood beaded up from the scratch, and grinned, pushing her pinkie finger against it. “Now, where shall I start?” She asked quietly, mostly to herself except from the way her eyes flitted up to his face, her long eyelashes getting in the way of her view.
Stormy aqua blues passed twitchily from the scythe that blurred and unblurred as he tried to focus on the metal at such a short distance, and over to the face of the warlock whose insanity seemed to steepen right before the merman's eyes. The feeling of her hands on his face made him want to flinch, but he stood strong for the moment, trying desperately to cling to some form of bravery. He didn't want to break down into the cowardly mess he knew would be so easy to allow himself to become as wave after wave of nauseous fear and anxiety rolled over him. As the blade ripped down the front of his shirt, he grit his teeth into the rag that nearly made him gag everytime he tried to gasp or make any sound of discomfort. He hissed into the material as blood welled to the surface of his skin, creating a streak of red down the middle of his chest and torso and slowly beginning to drip downwards with the help of gravity, smearing as she pressed a finger to the crimson, causing him to flinch anyway as he felt the sting he knew could he so much worse. He tried not to think about it, instead echoing Grell's words inside his head. No one would care he was gone? He...That wasn't right, right? Surely someone would care. Anyone? He thought back to the school, trying to picture anyone other than the obvious ghost demon who wouldn't think of him as just another face that mysteriously disappeared, just another empty desk that one held a body. Was he already dead inside? That statement alone shook Cody's whole being, the world tilting on its side as he considered it. Maybe he was...
It was cute how the boy tried to escape, and Grell giggled to herself as she pulled off her jacket and draped it over the side of the stall. She removed her vest as well, and set it in the same spot, undoing her cuffs to roll up her sleeves. “Now, how should I start?” She said, smiling to herself and upending her bag of tools. The sickle particularly intrigued her and she lifted it into the light turning it this way and that.
He was right to be afraid. The warlock didn’t bluff when she wanted to play, and now was certainly the time to play. “I’ve got all sorts of toys to play with, all these sharps things. And I bet that if I searched hard enough in here, I’d find a flamethrower of some sort.” She looked at the boy, smiling. “Of course, if I wanted to I could just shock you.” She snapped her fingers, sparks flying off of them. “Because I’m going to guess you’re some sort of water based thing, and you don’t do well with electricity.”
Cute? It was cute that he was basically writhing against the stall he'd been tied to, hoping by some miracle to tug himself free? One could suppose from Grell's point of view it was as if he were a fish in the net, struggling with all his might in some hope that he might either free himself or be set free by the forgiving hands that had put him into such a predicament. Maybe, if it weren't but a very nice metaphor, the fisherman may've been the loving sort who would've seen that he was but a guppy, not deserving of being pulled to a land of pain and most likely death...but that wasn't the case with Grell. Cody paused in his efforts at capturing freedom, taking a short time to observe the scythe that had been raised in the air for him to see more clearly. Fear once again welled inside him, an emotion he hated with every fiber of his being, but didn't care one bit and continued to go about its business of making him quake in his spot. She was asking questions, but he merely stared at her, eyes wide and sparkling with what he would deny were tears if anyone cared enough to ask, not that the redhead would take time out of what appeared to be a busy schedule to ask about such a small detail. So, he shook and he stared and he prayed to a god he hadn't thought about closely in a number of years. He replayed every bad thing he had ever done, trying to figure out which of them was the one that ultimately tipped him over to the side of the human (or nearly human) race that found themselves in situations like this, getting what they deserved. Why him? It was a simple question...Why?
Merman in the aquarium by ~VKliza
Grell chuckled. “That’s cute.” She said, smirking. Her hands threaded through his hair, almost caringly, before one hand fisted in the blond locks and yanked his head back painfully, while she stuffed a dirty rag into his mouth and wrapped the duct tape she had grabbed around his head, muffling anymore words he had. “I’m Grell. I’d ask your name, but… I really just don’t give a shit. You’re gonna be a faceless smear on this barn’s floor soon anyway.” She nudged the tools on the floor with her foot, pursing her lips.
Cody winced as his head was pulled back, his neck bending into an angle that sent pain racing down his spine. Words of further defiance began to form but not before they were blocked from every being revealed by the wad of unwashed fabric. He attempted to shake his head from side to side, trying to dislodge the rag and muffling more angry utterances into it as the duct tape was fastened, stopping him from the small shimmer of hope that had been his ability to spit it out once he was let go. Now, it became clear to him that he was destined to stay relatively silent while Grell did whatever it was her twisted mind had come up with this time.
As she spoke of him being turned into nothing but a smudge, he froze in his continuing struggle against her, eyes going to the movement of her foot and hearing the sound of tools within a bag. Heart jumping, Cody began to fully realize the situation he was in. This wasn't a joke. This wasn't some weirdo who had been trying to scare him or had tied him up just to see him squirm. This wasn't a bully idiot like he was used to staring down with a sense of pride and the need to stand tall. This wasn't one of those times to not be afraid. This was most definitely the time to feel a sense of fear, and he did; the sense washed over him and he began to breathe more quickly through his nose, his head reeling as he quickly began to replay what he had seen around the room, any chance of getting free. His fingers curled and uncurled hoping to find some loose piece of rope or...something, anything.
