If I hadn't gone to school I would've never read this book. A book-that has opened my eyes on the issues that need to be fought for, about a transgender woman (boy to girl) shows how hard life is for not only herself, but the struggles of the family, the community, those others that are not yet capable of expressing their thoughts to others. I like how the book quotes Charles Taylor stating, "Each of us has an original way of being human. Each person has his or her own 'measure' . . . There is a certain way of being human that is my way. I am called upon to live my life in this way, and not in imitation of anyone else's life. But this gives a new importance to being true to myself. If I am not, I miss the point of my life; I miss what being human is for me" (Becoming Nicole, 249) I have so many thoughts racing through my head on this subject, and I can only hope that each of you can adopt a newfound way of being more acceptable to not only an individual need, but a community need.
