The tower of the 4th century BC fortification of Aegosthena in Mount Cithaeron, surviving almost intact, with minimal restoration required. It remained in use until the end of the Byzantine period. It is considered the possibly best preserved fortification of classical antiquity in Greece and yet it is a little known archaeological site to both Greeks and tourists.

This painting is attributed to a follower of Hieronymus Bosch and is titled The Fall of the Magician Hermogenes.
The story of the Magician Hermogenes is a classic medieval legend originating from the 13th-century Golden Legend (compiled by Jacobus de Voragine). It details how the stubborn magician tried to use demons to combat the Apostle James the Greater, only to be converted to Christianity himself.
