back and forth
you say you want peace, but what you mean is silence,
in the face of justice, you condemn their audacity
behind your white picket fence you sit back observing
while brethren risk their lives for a taste of equality
land of the free, home of the brave?
you built this country on fear and compliance
the stars on our flag speak of dreams and wonder
countless live their lives hoping for a chance at those dreams
but you sit back and sabotage them, riddled with hate
and the wonder deflates, the ambition fades
i’d ask what happened, but i know it’s no use
nothing has changed, it’s only been broadcasted
you can’t hide intolerance, we see your bigotry
we the people know that it doesn’t have to be this way
so you can silence us no longer, our words are here to stay
united we stand, for the prospect of freedom we fall
