Final Assessment 3: Concept Statement

Many of us believe that our individual actions today make little impact on the great world around us; because what can I do I'm only one person? When in reality it's every thought, decision and breath that dictates the future world we will live In our final work we wanted to explore illustrating how individual choices can dictate what the future might be. So the first page of our artwork is a series of questions and paths that lead to a speculative future based on the choices that were made. Once a solution is reach the reader then turns to the indicated page and has a glimpse into a potential future. The nature of the work is so audiences can repeatedly change the course of their actions and realise what future and where their choices can lead them. Realising how their little actions or thought processes can ultimately lead to different aspects or outcomes in our future Once they've read and understood the comparative changes between today's contemporary society and a speculative future, audiences turn to the last page. Here is a contract whereby audiences are encouraged to sign their name and pledge to actively ensure that they are considering the impacts of every decision they make. Also upholding their responsibility as citizens of the current world to ensure a better future for generations.

Processes/Drafts for Assignment 3:

  Inspired by the idea of hologram phones in the future, I gathered several apps’ screenshots from the Internet and a picture of a conceptual design of future’s phone and mixed them up as you can see in the last picture.

  But according to our group discussion, I’m gonna modify the texts floating above to make it feels more like a “future thing”.

  I referenced to some diaries of refugees in WW2 and wrote a version of WW8 breaking out in the year of 2305. And I added some effects such as blur, blood, folded pattern and so on, making it seems more realistic.

Researches for Assignment 3:

  For historians who use letters and diaries, they are valuable windows for looking into the past. Both kinds of personal texts rely on narrative, or storytelling, something which gives historians a useful, inspiring, and sometimes challenging threshold for the story they want to tell. Too, most personal texts have a certain open, candid quality which contrasts with the highly conceptualized and self-protective language of more “official” documents. Finally, although only literate people kept diaries and exchanged letters, both forms were important to a wide variety of people in the past – rich and not-so-rich, old and young, women and men – and thus diaries and letters are among the most democratic of historical sources.

Researches for Assignment 3:

  According to Wikipedia, a war artist depicts some aspect of war through art. The art might be a pictorial record, or it might commemorate how war shapes lives. War artists explore the visual and sensory dimensions of war, often absent in written histories or other accounts of warfare.

  Peter Kennard is one of them. He is a photomontage artist. Seeking to reflect his involvement in the anti-Vietnam War movement, he turned from painting to photomontage to better address his political views. His works are shown in a range of contexts, on line, in galleries and on protest marches. He described his work as an integral part of political activism, a direct means of communication since he felt the oppositions and sentiments against the war of public were not reflected in the mainstream media.

  I regard the way he uses montage as a creative method. Sometimes when several irrelevant or even opposite images are rearranged together, the outcome will produce effective impression, which is often ironic. And this is almost the most popular attitude artists adopt towards wars.

Some research and brainstorm about the Future ‘Human’ & ‘Event’.

In human’s part, I summed up the three different possibilities of the future mankind by researching. According to this, I will make a combination of these three elements of future human and reference Leonardo da Vinci’s The Vitruvian Man I’ll try to paint out in this way.

Moreover, I imagined two different events that will be occur in the future’s world, they are ‘Human Extinction’ and ‘Ice Age’. Both two will totally change  the existing form of our world in a subversive ways.
