It's a studying in the back yard sort of morning
“I have this strange feeling that I’m not myself anymore. It’s hard to put into words, but I guess it’s like I was fast asleep, and someone came, disassembled me, and hurriedly put me back together again. That sort of feeling.”
— Haruki Murakami (b. 12 January 1949)
how to memorize
in every subject area, memorization is very important, and it gets really difficult to keep track of everything you have to remember. here are some tips and tricks i use for memorization.
tips and tricks
write it down. write, rewrite, and write again. this is probably the best memorization tip i have for math. this tip is also very helpful if you’re cramming for a test, which (although i don’t recommend) happens to all of us at some point. i often write the same formula 20-30 times if i’m really having trouble with it. it also helps you remember if you really understand what you’re doing, so write an explanation of how it actually works. for example, for finding the area of a triangle you could say “you find the area of a rectangle and divide by 2 because a two triangles make a rectangle.” that’s a simple example but hopefully it makes sense :)
summary foldables i adapted this method from the wonderful @studyign. basically, it’s the same idea as flashcards, except you use a sheet of paper. it’s explained perfectly here.
mind maps i LOVE mind maps. they are definitely one of the best ways to remember and understand information, especially in subjects like history. i recommend searching some good pictures of mind maps on tumblr, they’re everywhere. this is also a really great video on mind maps.
repetition this goes back to the idea in tip #1. repetition is hands down the best way to remember something. in all my classes, i actually copy down my notes about 4 times: first, i take notes from the textbook before the lecture. then, i take lecture notes. these are usually pretty messy, because i just focus on getting down the information. after the lecture, i combine my lecture notes and my textbook notes into a detailed (and pretty!) outline. lastly, i study by using things like mind maps and foldables. by the end of it, you’ll know the information so well you’ll basically become the textbook :)
mnemonic devices mnemonic devices are super helpful- and fun! i used them a ton in bio last year to memorize things like the taxonomic groups (keep pond clean or froggy gets sick –> kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, genus species). i use them for vocab too: i’ll make up a story for each word. hint: the sillier, the better! your brain tends to remember weird + unordinary things than normal everyday things. for example, to remember the word “repercussions” it would be harder with the sentence “there would be serious repercussions” than with “she broke the snare drum, so she knew there would be serious repercussions.” (shoutout to all my music nerds who get the joke :p)
sleeeeeeep + take care of yourself i know this is hard for a lot of us busy students, but i guarantee you will do SO much better academically if physically and mentally you are 100%. remember, health above studying.

01.07.2021// hey everyone!! It’s been a while. I got so busy at the end of last semester and my anxiety kicked in a lot. I hope everyone had a relaxing holiday break. Right now I’m applying to internship positions as part of my program. It’s pretty stressful, especially considering there’s not many positions up right now. However I’m hoping they’ll be updated soon. I also made a vision board collage for the year! It was a super fun activity, I definitely recommend trying it out!

Can you tell me whats it like being an international development student? I wanna know because Im choosing a career for myself
Hey there! This is something I’m quite passionate about, so I may rant a bit here. Be prepared 😂
I had a very hard time choosing what I wanted to do in university. I originally thought political science or sociology would be the route for me. However, after reading more about the program I’m in now, I knew it would be perfect. International development takes these issues on a global scale, and discusses the things that are really important in my opinion. Things like poverty, colonization, gender and Indigenous rights. If I went into one of those other programs, I feel like I would have been focusing a lot more on theory. Plus, the people I know in political science all want to be lawyers, and some of them feel very argumentative and competitive. That’s not really me.
I truly do believe that international development studies students are getting some of the best material and topics to discuss out there. Plus, you can tailor it to focus on what matters most to you. For example, as a Canadian, I’m very interested in what development looks like here. International development allows you to see the world more broadly, and question the institutions we have in place.
I would definitely recommend studying this to anyone who is interested in politics or social issues. If anyone else has questions about it feel free to message me!
Thought it was time for a logo change!!! It’s so crazy, I remember designing the first logo for this account, thinking it would go nowhere. And here we are now! I’m so thankful to have met you all, and you make my day so much better. Thank you for sticking with me, and I hope you’re all doing well. Sending love your way

10.13.20// hello everyone! So online school has really been ramping up. I find that there are so many more readings to do. Not to mention my politics textbook has some of the longest chapters I’ve had to read for a class. I feel like I’m learning a lot though, and I am somehow keeping afloat. This weekend was Thanksgiving for us Canadians so we had two days off from classes. I took some time to relax because I have been working a lot and deserved a break. It’s too bad I didn’t get to go out much this weekend, we were thinking of putting Halloween decorations up but decided against it. So instead of fall pics I’ve given you one of geese my friend and I saw this summer! I spent a lot of time watching movies and TV shows this weekend, like Big Little Lies (I loved it!) and When Harry Met Sally (finally!) What’s your autumn or quarantine binge?
