Greetings, Lord Belos. I hope you’ve been well. I’ve been quite busy applying to graduate school. I presume you’ve been busy as well.

How have the kittens been?

“Graduate school? I imagine that will bring a fair amount of busyness into your life.” *He lifts a brow, faintly recalling that the human girl Luz once mentioned how a graduate degree is not something easily earned. Though, for Emperor Belos, it likely wouldn’t pose much trouble.*

“Judging from our past conversations, you seem to possess a certain level of learning. Since you’ve been given such an opportunity, I suspect you’ll manage it well enough.”

*Perhaps this is his awkward way of offering praise... Encouragement, even.*

“As for the kittens…” *With an air of practiced nonchalance, he pulls open his cloak for you to see. The little black kittens, and Hickory dressed in a bee costume, are nestled inside, keeping warm. They all seem to get along quite well. The other kittens have also been dressed: some in tiny lace capes, others in sleepwear, and some in miniature aprons.*

“I may have spoiled them a bit too much.”

*He motioned toward the sofa with a tilt of his head, as if to say, “Well? Aren’t you going to sit down?”*

“You actually kept it?” *With all the gifts he received, I assumed he’d throw away such a poorly make wooden carving.

*I smiled, sitting down with what was only a half-an-inch between us.* “that does sound quite boring. I’m glad you made time for us.” *I raise my brows suggestively (jokingly. He, however, does not know this)

*Perhaps your long absence has made him a touch unaccustomed to your nearness once more. Still, in order to preserve his dignity and sense of authority, he refuses to shift away. If anything, he straightens his posture as you leaned closer.*

“Of course. I keep every offering brought to me by my visitors. Who wouldn’t enjoy receiving gifts? I have even set aside an entire chamber solely for storing such tributes. As for the several kittens—yes, I am tending to them properly. The plants as well.”

*He strives to appear utterly nonchalant, idly toying with a lock of his hair as he speaks. Yet you can hear it in his tone: he does care about the gifts he receives—yours included. The fact that he personally polished that wooden carving is proof enough of its value to him.*

“Hmph… don’t get ahead of yourself. I merely… happened to have a moment of leisure, that’s all.”

Okay, I'm gonna stop breaking the 4th wall and I'll explain what that is later. Anyway. *hands him a cup of coffee identical to how I make mine and gives him lime jelly filled flapjack shaped cookies before sitting my ass down.* So how've you been, Emperor Belos? *cracks open a monster energy can and chugs it*

*He picked up the cookie and gave you a suspicious glance. The fourth wall? Was that some kind of secret he didn’t know about? As he bit into the lime jelly filled cookie, his mind was already running through possible meanings of that term, wondering whether he could somehow use this mysterious new concept to his advantage…*

*But his attention quickly drifted to the drink in your hand. To hell with the fourth wall—what really mattered now was figuring out what that suspiciously green, sour-smelling beverage you were holding was.*

“I’m fine. Apologies for disappearing for a while. I had things to take care of…but that’s not important.”

“…What is that suspicious green beverage you’re holding?”

Happy Halloween, Emperor Belos! I re-enter the room wearing a penguin onesie.

I’m dressed up as an emperor penguin! ^_^ they’re birds from the arctic of the Human Realm! They’re really big and they can also swim.

And look! I’m dressed up as a father emperor penguin, cuz I have my baby right here! I show him a small plush of a baby emperor penguin. His name is Bert!

“Ah, Halloween… After consulting that human girl, Luz, I believe I’ve gathered a modest understanding of this peculiar celebration.”

*His gaze swept over you from head to toe. He appeared amused, perhaps even faintly charmed, though he would never admit it aloud. Of course, he hadn’t the faintest idea what an emperor penguin was. Yet, for the sake of dignity, he inclined his head ever so slightly and spoke as if he did.*

“Indeed… a noble creature of the Arctic realms. I am well acquainted.”

*You knew that tone well—the one he used whenever his pride demanded he pretend to know more than he did. His chin tilted upward just a bit, gaze lowering to you.*

“Bert, was it? May I inquire as to why you chose such an…unique name?”

*That was his polished phrasing. Inwardly, though, he thought that if anyone had dared to name him Bert, he would’ve smashed his head against the nearest wall.*

Hi everybody! Sorry I haven’t been active lately, my health condition is a bit ”yikes”, so I have to be monitored. Don’t worry, I’m still alive and well, I just have to go through the protocols. I should be able to go home later this month. Hope you guys are doing well! It’s spooky month already!

Hiiiii Emperor Belos! *I come over and sit on his lap as usual. I’ve cuddled with this man far too many times for it to be abnormal at this point. I’ve claimed it as my throne, apparently.*

Sorry I’ve been gone for a while, but I made you this. *casually leaning against his chest, I hold up a wooden figure of him, carefully carved with shaky hands. It was….decent, merely carrying little notches and scrapes from a knife slipping, and a few tiny splotches of blood that were desperately rubbed off of the wood. Clearly made by a beginner, but with the attempt of a gift he’d adore.*

“Oh, so you do remember how to come back?”

*He was clearly sulking. His tone carried a hint of reproach, though you could feel he wasn’t truly angry—just harboring a touch of childish resentment.*

“You can’t… you can’t do all those things to me and then suddenly vanish without a word! I did a lot of outrageous things with you… you need to take responsibility for that.”

*Perhaps to better express his petulant displeasure, he tucked away the gift you’d brought him, then promptly lifted you and tossed you onto the sofa. With arms folded, he stood over you in a show of brooding authority, as if to make you reflect longer on your “offense.” Yet after giving your little gift a careful inspection, some of that storminess seemed to fade.*

“…You made this? Hmph. I won’t praise you… I’m not that easy to sway… and I certainly won’t be tempted just by one handmade trinket...”

*He was lying, of course. It was painfully obvious—his fingers lingered on the wooden carving, unwilling to let it go at all.*

*I frown, upset at being thrown off his lap, before I process the implications of his words.*

“…you missed me.” *I grin.* “Well, I wouldn’t call cuddling outrageous, but I’ll make sure I’ll alert you when I’m gone, so you aren’t shocked to be left alone after my ‘outrageous’ behaviors.” *I am clearly incredibly smug, and even more touched, that he missed me this much.*

*Despite his words, it was clear that my poorly crafted trinket did reach his heart, swaying him easily. Noticing this vulnerability, I hold my arms out to beckon him closer*. “Make up cuddles?” *I suggest*

*Your smugness only makes him more embarrassed and irritated; he gives a low growl and mutters a few words. Still, plainly, ever since you appeared he's been standing very close to you, leaving almost no space between you two.*

“Fine, I’ll reluctantly forgive you this once... If you do it again next time, I suppose I’ll have no choice—” *He pauses, perhaps realizing whatever punishment his instinct wanted to spit out wouldn’t be appropriate; after all, he doesn’t want you running off again.*

“I’ll just have to hold you and ignore you.”

*He does his best to look unwilling, but he still cuddled you tightly.*

[I shuffle into the room, clearly very sheepish about my previous exploits. Without saying anything further, I present my latest offering: a light-up fidget spinner]

“Oh? You managed to slip out of your restraints?”

*Hands on his hips, he tilted his head back to look you over, before the vines lashed out again, hoisting you upside down. He gave you a few testing swings, almost as if you were nothing more than a toy, and then finally tossed you onto the sofa.*

“…What’s this? A little triangle… oddly familiar somehow… oh?”

*It took him three attempts to get the fidget spinner moving properly, but once he did, he was utterly absorbed—turning it in his fingers while looming over you from above.*

“Hmph. A clever little trinket. But don’t think I’ll forgive you so easily, you scheming creature.”

*Bonk. He bonked you lightly on the head with his left hand while still playing with that fidget spinner.*

“You’re spouting strange nonsense again—things that make no sense in the slightest.”

*Conveniently, he chose to ignore your little comment about him being your favorite hot old guy.*

“Since you’re so intent on making amends for your foolishness, braid my hair again. But this time, do it properly—neatly. Last time you sneaked about with it, the result was a dreadful mess that came undone almost immediately.”

*Ah, so he had known all along.*
