The Art of Plating
Watch Niki Nakayama, chef-owner of LA kaiseki restaurant n/naka, plating a selection of dishes from her 13-course tasting menu while explaining what kaiseki means to her. Filmed by The Art of Plating.
To piggyback on that chores post, if you are a man who lives with a woman, be it roommate or partner or family, get up right now, right this very second, and clean something. Anything.
Empty a trashcan. Do the dishes. Wipe down a surface. Dust something. Sweep. Mop. Strip the bedding. Start the laundry.
Just pick a fucking task - no, TWO tasks - and do them right now.
And then don’t talk about it. Don’t bring it up as a way of asking for a pat on the back or special treatment. Don’t draw attention to the fact that you cleaned the fridge or toilet.
Just do the things and shut up about it because you need to be pulling your weight and you don’t deserve special praise for it.
Because I can guarantee you with almost absolute certainty that the women in your life have been brought to tears or near emotional breakdown more than once because they’re sick of being the ones who always have to do it.
Get off your aaaaaaaaass and clean something right this very second.
I’ve been staring at this for 5 minutes
That’s what it looks like. That’s really what it looks like
Being out in the ocean is actually so scary because when you look really far out you can kind of see how the Earth is rounded out. It looks like a few miles ahead you’re just gonna fall off or something. Also fun trick: if ur on mobile, double tap zoom in and slide the picture side to side. It looks like you’re actually there looking left to right
DO THAT DO IT RIGHT NOW
I am screaming
DO IT
The City That Never Was Christopher Marcinkoski
One of the most troubling consequences of the 2008 global financial collapse was the midstream abandonment of several large-scale speculative urban and suburban projects. The resulting scars on the landscape, large subdivisions with only marked-out plots and half-finished roads, are the subject ofThe City That Never Was, an eye-opening look at what happens when development, particularly what the author calls “speculative urbanization” is out of sync with financial reality. Presenting historical and recent examples from around the world—from the sprawl of the US Sun Belt and the unoccupied towns of western China, to the “ghost estates” of Ireland—and focusing on case studies in Spain, Marcinkoski proposes an ecologically based model in place of the capricious economic and political factors that typically drive development today.

Having an eating disorder… Sucks. But now that I have it, I wouldn’t trade it for the world. Without the darkest times of my life, I would never be in the place I am today. And you know what? I kinda like where I’m at now. So take your eating disorder for what it is, and turn it into a powerful source of motivation for life. You deserve to thrive. 💙
7 Women Open Up About Workplace Discrimination
Complainer. Troublemaker. Difficult. Overly sensitive. Bitch. It’s hard for a lot of women to speak up against workplace discrimination because we fear we’ll be called these ugly names, marginalized, or passed over for future opportunities. We worry we’ll lose our jobs, or worse. We second-guess our gut reactions and wonder, is it just me?

“I like clothes now. I have more energy. I sleep better. My sex drive is up. Blood’s flowing. I’m less susceptible to impulse. I’m in a different mode. When I was way out of shape, the idea of using whitening strips on my teeth seemed terrible. I have to do that every day? I’ll never do it. What you want is instant results when you’re out of shape. You want your teeth whitened in 45 minutes with the use of lasers. But when you’re in shape, you know it’s the result of doing a little bit every day. Moments aren’t just moments. A moment might be a week or a month. So instead of ‘Boy, I’d love to eat this hamburger right now,’ I’m considering a little further into the future. I’m thinking, I eat that hamburger and that’s 1,200 calories, and I’m gonna work out tomorrow and lose 800 calories. I may as well eat a salad here, still do that workout, and then I’m actually making progress.”
