“No-no, it’s fine,” Cole says, his tone soft and reassuring immediately as he turns towards her. Nodding, he smiles as he listens to her, “Well, um, maths was-was not a b-bad subject for me, uh, I-I rather liked it. It-it was nice an-and absolute, but it-it can be challenging. Men-mental maths isn’t a-a strong suit for-for a lot of wix,” he says, wrapping his arms around himself, “Es-especially purebloods.” He was sure to keep his voice down, even if he thought it was a fairly innocuous statement. After all, wix didn’t have as much use for maths. “Oh, I-I don’t know if-if I say bad things, it-it’s more like I-I say things badly,” he says, laughing slightly at himself, “But it-it’s fine, I-I’m not, um,” he laughs nervously, “That’s something m-more of a j-joke,” he insists. “I-I was never re-really one for n-non-fiction, I-I was always try-trying to get into, um, th-the restricted sec-section. I d-don’t know if you h-had that but, um, there w-were certain b-books off limits an-and that just m-made them all-all the more interesting t-to me. I-I read, um, a l-lot of muggle b-books about biology as-as well, but, um, you know, any-anything I can-can learn from, th-that’s kind of my thing. Most-most people would prob-probably find my-my taste bor-boring,” he says, his voice dropping off as he realizes he’d been rambling for quite a long time.
She continues to smile and nod as he speaks. Math’s never been her thing, but she can see that it’s one of his. However, as he lowers his voice and ‘especially purebloods,’ escapes, she can’t help, but burst out laughing. She throws back her head and has to cover her mouth. With everything going on, it was very much needed, but probably inappropriate for an owner of such a well-known wizard establishment. “Oh, I really needed that. Thank you.” She turns back to the other to let him speak, but her smile just won’t quit. Wow, when is the last time she laughed? “There’s always someone trying to ban books, isn’t there? Wizards ban no-maj books, no majs ban wizard books. It’s all so ironic. But, I don’t know if I would consider that stuff boring. I just wish I understood it more.”
