Reference Book - They will make coin collecting a gazillion time easier - Helping you set goals for collecting, knowing the value of coins, how they  look like, spotting counterfeits etc.

They are important for novice and master alike. For novices - there are a lot of  reference books out there and you will easily get lost and distracted.

Every country has an "official" (published by some government body, a big organization or a museum) guide book for the coins of (usually) last couple of hundred mint years. A good example is the US The official Red Book.

Do you know what ventriloquism actually is?

Ventriloquism definition 

Projecting your voice so that it seems as though coming from another source (usually a puppet).

It is a simple magic trick, but instead of creating an illusion for the eyes, it is an illusion for your ears and just like in a magic trick, we create an illusion and use misdirection. Using a dummy we will direct the viewer to the illusion of the sound as though it is speaking.

The illusion of ventriloquism

Like for zombies, the brain is the ventriloquists best friend! The human ear is very bad at detecting the origin of a sound without the eyes (some visual cues). Ventriloquists use it to their advantage in creating the illusion that the voice is coming from a different source, by making your brain fool you into believing in the illusion by filling in the missing signals (lack of lip movement).Lets just call it a vocal magic trick.

Modern day ventriloquism

Today, ventriloquism is a rapidly growing form of entertainment and showmanship, mostly common in comedy and children’s shows. These shows usually take the form of a single performer and a special puppet or doll (or dummy) engaging in a back-and-forth conversation.

You have probably seen famous ventriloquists and comedians like Jeff Dunham or Terry Fator. (we certanly posted allot of their stuff on here :) )

 Although this object is hundreds of years old it is still with us today, providing a small window into an intriguing past culture. While Anglo-Saxon coins are now sold among historical enthusiast and kept in museums, it is important to acknowledge that this coin was once a daily part of people's lives.

Do you know what are the best ways to store your coins?

My Favorites:

Flips - Have two pockets, one for a coin, the other for a label. Use the ones made of Mylar.

Coin Pages & Binders - Makes it easy for you to organize, categorize and store your collection.

Foldout albums -  can protect coins from wear and handling 

Slab -  (sonically sealed hard plastic holders for individual coins) offer good protection, but slabbing is an expensive process, so it's best to use it for more valuable coins.
