what paper do you use? and what kind of paper is best for markers in your opinion?

Cheap printer paper! I wish i had a better answer, but honestly i've been using office printer paper since being a child, and just stuck with it.

It does bleed through, usually just through 1 or 2 sheets, but it takes markers really well. You'd be surprised how many layers it can take before needing a minute to dry.

From the few times i did experiment with marker specific paper, I never got on with it. Most have either a grainy texture or cause the ink to bleed outwards rather than through. I prefer the latter as it offers more control :)

Just discovered your art and holy wow it's so cool!

Can I ask what kind of paper you use? I have a decent set of alcohol markers and currently suck with them, but like the way they feel and the color mixing ability.

I could use advice on what paper won't destroy itself when multiple colors are layered. I keep trying and just end up with pulp and bleeding edges of color. I do understand that some of that issue is my own lack of expertise with the markers.

Apologies in advance, you'll likely hate the answer. I've literally been using cheap printer paper for 15+ years 😅

I generally get 100gsm, so like 1 level above what office paper is (thats typically 80gsm).

It does bleed through 1 maybe 2 layers depending on how much ink you put down. I tend to let layers dry a tad before going in again if you're say 3 layers in already.

Alcohol markers are quite forgiving, you can 're-wet' them by simply going over a whole area in a lighter colour and rebuilding your shadows, doing that creates a smoother blend. But it takes practice to get a feel for how much to push the colours.

I've messed up loads along the way. It really is trial and error! But yeah, cheap printer paper works wonders.

I'm a big pusher of 'expensive does not equal good'. Its why i refuse to use Copics. They're overpriced for no reason besides being industry standard. I stand by my Ohuhus 😌

Same goes for pricey marker specific paper. I've always found it to limit blending time, and it creates grainy textures that i'm not fond of.
