Anyone you would like to get closer to?
“No. But Zachary was very nice. And Gray.”
What's your favorite food?
“I don’t know, I kind of like soup.”
“It’s not really that bad here…is it?” Ernest scratched the back of his neck. Maybe it wouldn’t be if he had a drink..”It doesn’t seem bad..yet”
“It isn’t horrible, I guess...” Cole murmured back to the other, smiling shyly “There are a few nice people around to help.”
Favorite staff member? Favorite patient?
“Gray is nice...And I guess, um..Zachary was nice.”
clarissarho:
“Are you a therapist or some shit?” Clarissa put the pencil down and glanced at him.
Cole frowned, shaking their head “No...I just was wondering...I’m sorry.”
In any other situation, an abandoned deck of cards on a table wouldn’t even catch Nix’s eye. But, in a place like this, with nothing else to do, a game of Solitaire was a welcome escape from having to listen to the endless drone of the multiple televisions talking over one another in such a small space. Someone sat down at the table and she immediately snapped her attention away from the cards. “It’s a one-player game, b-before you ask,” she shook her head.
Cole hadn’t even noticed the other person when they sat down. Well, they did, but it wasn’t like they were paying them any mind. They just needed a place to sit. When the other spoke, Sohinki shook their head “O-Oh, I wasn’t going to ask. I don’t even know how to play any card games. I-I was just going to watch television...”
grayxban:
“Yeah? I love flowers. ” Gray said, looking at the little flowers as well. “I really want to start a garden at home, but my dog would probably destroy it. She’s a wild furball.” They smiled at the mention of their dog, always happy to think about how cute she is. “Sometimes certain people remind me of certain flowers. I don’t know why, but it’s kind of weird isn’t it? “
Sohinki nodded, shrugging lightly “I guess they’re a pretty good thing to like. I don’t think anyone could hate them.” They murmured, though they were sure someone probably did. “If you want to do it, go for it. You can always teach her not to dig and stuff and keep rebuilding the garden.” Cole suggested. “I don’t think so. Everyone has something about them, so finding a flower that aesthetically matches with them, or that brings a certain memory to light can make you think of someone.”
colesohinki:
“Boring? I mean, you don’t have to do it.” They reminded her, shrugging lightly.
“If I don’t, then her dad will be the better part-time parent.”
"Is that the only reason you do things?"
colesohinki:
Cole was practically bouncing on their feet. Being able to draw normally again would be extremely fun. Of course, they weren’t expecting there to be pencils. Maybe if they asked really nice, they could find a way to use a pencil. “Oh, I’m Sohinki. Or Cole. I don’t care either way.”
“nice to meet you cole.” he said, preferring the simpler name because it was easier to remember and he had a tendency to forget things a lot. with his hands in his sweatpant’s pockets, he began to walk towards the room. “i take it you’re really excited.” he grinned.
Nodding, at the pleasantries, they didn't return them, still finding others around very suspicious. Cole blushed lightly and nodded "I enjoy art..it's the only thing I've got that will keep me...stable?" They weren't sure that was the right word, but it seemed fit for now.
colesohinki:
“That’s a stupid thing to say. If I wasn’t honestly concerned about it I wouldn’t be bitching so hard about it, now would I? As long as it gets looked into.” They shot back. Cole hated being so angry about small things like mold. But they had picked up on the nitpicking over the reasons. Picked up character traits and such. “People doing their best doesn’t seem to go far in mental institutions if you pay attention to trends or anything at all having to do with them.”
“Sometimes people bitch about things because they want to bitch about things. Like I said, I’m simply trying to help. There’s no need to speak to me like that.” Heather sighed slowly, crossing her arms over her chest. “I don’t see what benefits come of insulting people who want to help you.”
"That's not the case. I'm bitching about something that could potentially affect my health." Cole raised an eyebrow. They weren't insulting anyone. "I'm not insulting anyone. I'm just pointing out statistics and trends of mental hospitals being closed down or patients being released early and wrongly."
colesohinki:
“Yes, they would. If someone is brave, they know it. I’m not brave.” Cole argued, shaking their head. They could never see themselves as brave, they never thought it would happen, no matter how much therapy they attended. “Crying is for cowards.” The way they spoke was as if it was practiced, said over and over again. “Even if that’s true, I still do. I don’t think that’s changed anytime soon.” Cole sighed, wishing otherwise as they shoved their hands in their pockets.
Despite feeling that Cole’s mentality on the matter was not a healthy one, Gray knew better than to argue about matters like this. Arguing usually never got anyone anywhere, so they simply offered a gentle smile to Cole “We can agree to disagree.” they said softly, taking a moment to look around the garden, having almost forgotten that they were outside.
“Do you like flowers?”
Cole was glad the other was prodding or continuing to try to tell them how wrong they were. They'd had some doctors telling them similar things when they first arrived. "Good enough for me." They sighed. Sohinki looked at the ground, as the little flowers and such that Gray was speaking about. They'd never had much contact with them. When they were younger, their mother enjoyed them, though. "I guess? I don't hate them. They're okay."
zackoconnor:
“you’re welcome.” it felt nice to be helpful or at least made himself sound useful to someone instead of sounding like a useless piece of shit. zack always hated being considered that, it was something he had to suffer growing up and hoped he wouldn’t have to deal with any of that again. “i’m zack, by the way. zachary.”
Cole was practically bouncing on their feet. Being able to draw normally again would be extremely fun. Of course, they weren’t expecting there to be pencils. Maybe if they asked really nice, they could find a way to use a pencil. “Oh, I’m Sohinki. Or Cole. I don’t care either way.”
zackoconnor:
zack honestly wasn’t expecting the perked up response but soon enough he found himself smiling at it just a little, feeling that he had at least acheived something. “yeah, it’s not too far from here. it might be a little dusty but better than this spot.”
They hadn’t drawn in what felt like years. Every so often they’d drawn if given the chance. Now here they could draw, hopefully in peace. Cole smiled at the other “Thank you...I really appreciate it.”
colesohinki:
“I already hate this place…” They sighed. Cole just wanted a clean place to be for once. They were hoping it’d be here. “That’s not true, the outside can smell terrible, such as when there is smoke in the air or shit nearby. I have a love hate relationship with quietness.”
zack fumbled for a few seconds with his own thoughts, feeling a bit dumb because he couldn’t pull out anything else that could possibly help. “well, uh. then i don’t know where else to go. do you hate the smell of paint? we could go to the art room if you like.”
Cole perked up at the suggestion of the art room. They enjoyed drawing, and painting was alright. "The art room?" They asked, sounding a little merrier "D-Do you think you could show me where it is?"
milosinclair:
“Yeah, you’re right. That’s what I do now. Sleep. Whenever that works out y’know, with the kid and other things.” Other things like trains and traffic and nightmares. Simple other things like sleeplessness. “Yeah, it’s really uncomfortable. You get it though, I appreciate that. And now that we know each other, I can feel good about myself. It’s been great talking to you bruh, and if you ever need anything just come yank my sleeve or something. I’m no doctor so that’s something I can’t do but anyway. You cool? We cool? You’re not late for anything, are you? Because I am.” Milo snorted humorously and checked the time on his clock. Ten minutes late for staff meeting. Oh well.
“Oh, right. Kids don’t sleep well when they’re little...” Cole should have remembered that. “I guess it’s just a matter of finding the time. I’m sure there will some soon, kids can get into the habit of sleeping well by themselves pretty soon, usually by the time they hit five.” They told him, just spewing off what they knew from where they’d been. “Oh, uh, yeah, no problem. Thank you, I guess. I’m not. I didn't mean to make you late or anything, you can head off now if you need to.”
shieldingkaren:
“Not all of them. I think I know a few who’re genuinely trying to recover from whatever it is they’ve been dealing with” not that it was any of her bussiness she was just here to do her job, get the money and make sure no one was going overboard. “What happened to you? If I may ask”
“Alright, then most people. We get kicked out of society and we’re stuck here forever.” Cole clarifieed, shaking their head. Sohinki knew at some point or other that they would be asked what happened. They weren’t ready to speak about it. “What, you haven’t all read my file? Or do you not get access to that?”
grayxban:
“A brave person wouldn’t say that they were brave, would they?”Gray said gently. They offered a small smile to the other, glad that they seemed to have calmed down a little bit. “ Crying is healthy for you. It releases toxins and kills bacteria. It helps relieves stress too which is important for your mental heal… I know that crying can sometimes be perceived as weakness or something of the sort. I don’t think it’s a sign of weakness at all. You should never feel like you have to apologize for crying. ”
