A decade.

10 years at the same job. 8 years in the same apartment. 41 states. Western mountains, eastern rivers, the high desert. My best friend died. I dumped some girls. I got dumped by a whole lot more. A half-feral, inbred whirlwind of fur and claws taught me that I can mope all I want but the food bowl still needs filled and the litter box still needs changed. That whirlwind saved my life. I drank too much. I saved too little. I slept just barely enough. Friends got married. Cars broke down. Some of those marriages did too. Waterfalls, snowfalls, Appalachia and the Tetons. Full moons over the Juniata, crescents over Manuel Antonio. Tequila shots, camera shots, rabies shots. Sweat, tears, the ocean. The briefest glimpse of the indescribable in the Nevada desert. Campfire woodsmoke. Cast iron. Sleeping to the sound of the ocean. Waking to the laughter of friends. Hangovers, layovers, and from time to time both at once. Lots of tattoos.
