You’re lucky he sees you as a superior Ardyn or that hand would be gone. As it stands, Alerio tolerates the head-pats and praise with nothing more than a quiet grunt of acknowledgement.

Well... at least this means he’s doing his job right and making the Empire happy. Anything less would be unpardonable, since its the only thing he exists for.

Music Soothe The Savage Beast;;

One of the only things Alerio genuinely enjoys is music, particularly punk rock, screamo, rap, or any kind of angry, edgy music. He discovered it when he was fairly young and would wander around the Magitek facility, messing with a music player that belonged to some of the security staff at the time. Ever since he “borrowed” their music player and put in their headphones, he’s had somewhat of almost an addiction to it ever since. Generally nearly anyone can get on his good side by introducing him to new music he likes the sound of, though what normally comprises his “good side” is he’ll ignore the person’s presence from then on in favor of listening to his new songs. Its not all that unusual for Alerio to “rock out” to his music with headbanging and bouncing around, becoming totally oblivious in the meantime to his surroundings.

He had his orders, and his advantage. So long as they thought he was the weakling stray dog that Lucis claimed as its own, they’d be hesitant to fight seriously. That would give him plenty enough opening to go in for the kill. Maybe they’d realize at some point, maybe they wouldn’t, but so long as he could take down even one of them, it would be worth it.

So long as he did his duty serving the Empire, taking down the royal line of Lucis... or at least the King’s supporters. He couldn’t take down the young King. Ardyn was explicitly clear on that. He wanted that honor himself.

Still. He could sink his fangs into the rest of them just fine, and out of all of them, this man seemed the most worth taking down. Big, physically strong... and not impeded by blindness. The blind one would hardly be a challenge as far as he’s concerned with.

Alerio keeps him in his sights with his gun poised and ready to fire, as Ardyn’s voice echoes from the speakers in the walls, delivering the lies that Prompto was one of them all along and they fell for it. All a bunch of irrelevant noise to him. Just give the order. Let me shoot them.

Eager as he is to take them down and finally see his duty fulfilled properly, he’s not without restraint. He bites only when they tell him to. No sooner, no later. Give me the order.

An animalistic growl is the first warning the intruder gets that they don’t belong here. A lifted sniper-rifle barrel is the second warning, though he doesn’t fire, yet.

He doesn’t have orders to fire, and he has no idea who this person is, but he’ll be able to find out well enough if they have authorization to be here. If there’s any doubts, he can still incapacitate them and bring them before someone who’ll know better what to do about them. If he learns enough to know for sure they’re not meant to be here, he can shoot them dead and be done with it.

Its so warm here. Not at all like Gralea or the northern outlands where the Magitek facility lay at all. Summed up in three words: he hates it. He’s sweating up a storm without any work at all, never mind putting in any work without feeling like collapsing. And sand? Disgusting. Not as deep as snow, just as hard to run on, and it gets into everything. Not to mention its itchy. He’d much prefer cold and ice.

What interest would the Empire have in such a disgusting place, anyway? Whatever. Its not his place to question his superiors. He’s just one of their machines.

But he wishes Ardyn would hurry the fuck up with passing out his shiny coins and whatever else he wants to waste his time on.

What ends up taking up his time and attention, since Ardyn doesn’t have anything important for him to do, is some odd shape flickering underneath the water several feet below the dock. Blinking slowly, he watches the dark shape flit and then go still, lazing, then moving again until it starts to disappear under the dock.

What is that?

He ends up leaning further and further over the edge of the dock trying to see where its going and figure out what it is.

“don’t come any closer.” he lifts his gun, hands shaking. “if you don’t think i’ll shoot, you’re wrong. because i will.” prompto swallows, taking a few steps back, but being careful to not back himself into a corner. that was the last thing he wanted – especially since it was like looking into the eyes of a wolf. a perfect reflection, but such a difference.

the person looking back at him is what could have been. who he would’ve been if he had been raised here, but he hadn’t. that, at least, is something he could thank his parents for – if nothing else.

“Then shoot me,” Alerio sneers. Whether Prompto is merely bluffing or not, he doesn’t particularly care. If the other does shoot, he’ll either be dead or he’ll keep coming, injuries and all. His life means nothing unless its spent serving the Empire. If its spent dying for the Empire, just as well. There’s plenty where he came from. “Let’s see whose fangs are sharper...”

As if to show with confidence that he’s not bluffing himself, he ignores Prompto’s warning and takes a step towards him.

Alerio regards him unflinching at the angry, distraught exclamation. Even if the other had been free from the iron cross, he had nothing to fear from him. The other wasn’t a cold-blooded killer. He was soft. A failure. But at least he could serve the purpose of being bait. Soon enough, he’d see his final fate realized. He’d be disposed of, like the rest of the MT’s whose miasma had been extracted.

“No. Its all Lucis’s fault for stealing you and trying to make you believe you’re something you’re not. You’re just back where you belong.”

The corner of his lip twitches up just a bit like the beginnings of a snarl but falls before ever revealing his teeth, wrinkling his nose all the same.

“And what’s that supposed to mean?” The question comes out harsh but not without its own touches of genuine confusion. Since when has he ever cared what others thought? Unless its orders, and those he’s to obey without question. “I don’t give a damn what others think.”
