Bridge Battle || Matt, Carol, and Molly
Another reason to hate New York it seemed.
She hadn’t been in the midst of something so terrible since…
She shook the thought from her head. There were differently more pressing matters. She ducked behind a car as bullets riddles through the air, she sounds of people screaming filling her ears. Everything about this was scaring the hell out of her. She didn’t do war zones. Petty criminals and wannabe masterminds was more up her alley.
Still, she had people to help. It was her job. This is what she signed up all those months ago.
The police seemed to be no help whatsoever, what with them recklessly firing into the crowds of people rushing to get away. Molly was eager to look for ways to help them, but knew that most people would never listen to a child. Te best she could do was find the baddies causing this mess. She shivered at the thought of facing Hydra.
She spotted two familiar faces. Captain Marvel, who she had met earlier, and was that Daredevil? She promptly made her way over, helping an elderly man and a few people who actually listened to her out of harms way.
She walked up behind the two heroes, in slight disbelief that she had managed not to get shot. “You guys need some help?!” she shouted over the sounds of screams and gun shots.
“Okay, everyone – listen up. I’m only going to be able to say this once. We don’t have a lot of time right now.”
“Ignore Hydra – search and rescue is our number one priority. We need to get as many people out of the line of fire as possible. Once we evacuate the civilians, then we can focus on reclaiming the Bridge. Keep casualties to a minimum. I’m counting at least twenty innocents dead already and there’s no reason for that number to get any higher.”
“Captain, you’re an Avenger – you have supreme authority over law enforcement in this kind of situation. See if you can get them to stop shooting and start helping. The less bullets in the air, the better. Once you’ve got things settled, see what you can do about moving some of these cars.” The less chaotic the area became, the easier it would be to control. “Use them to help reinforce the police barricade, dump them in the river, throw them at Hydra – it doesn’t matter, just get rid of them. If one car explodes, all the rest will, and this Bridge will be in the river in an instant.”
“And you…“ Matt turned towards the small girl who seemed to be radiating an aura of power. Admittedly, he hadn’t the slightest idea of her capabilities, but she was incredibly determined to help and he opted to allow her despite the danger. He mentally claimed responsibility for her, promising himself that he would not allow her to get hurt. “You’re going to help me while Captain Marvel handles the police. I’ll point out the locations of trapped civilians and you’ll pull them out and escort them to the police blockade – I’ll also draw Hydra’s fire so you can get out easier.”
“Anyone have any questions, comments, or complaints?”
Carol immediately gave the man her attention, respecting his authority and direction. She knew her limitations and although she was capable of leading a team, she was better suited to following orders - so long as she agreed with them. Daredevil’s plan was sound, he had a clear grasp of where each of them would be needed most and she trusted in his judgments.
“Officers and cars, on it.” She confirmed with a nod.
She took a moment to acknowledge Molly’s arrival, an intense need to protect the girl rising up. Rationally she knew the girl could handle herself, she’d gone up against worse and Daredevil wouldn’t let any harm come to her, but she still worried. No one was invincible, even with her enhanced genetics she understood the fragility of mortality. Daredevil and Molly had their own skill sets and enhanced abilities but resistance to bullets and explosions were not particularly high on either list. They were quick though and as long as they worked together, they could pull this off.
“If Hydra get to this section, you’re going to fall back.” She instructed, directing her gaze to each of them as she spoke. “We’ve had enough casualties.”
She took a deep breath, heart heavy with the loss they had already faced from Hydra's attacks and bombs detonating throughout the city. They had to stop this, all of this. Hydra needed to go down and it needed to go down for good.
