probably my favorite thing about tyler's character is that he is so empathetic but he is still a deeply guarded character, bordering on cynical in nature. he trusts no one and expects no help from anyone.

and yet.

he did not fight back when ashlyn calls his paranoia out, and listened to her.

he is the first one to spot barron bullying logan and is the first one to step up.

he has offered to teach ben how to play guitar after learning about ben's past willingly.

he has indulged aiden's penchant for humor (even at the worst of times)

he has comforted ashlyn more than once when she starts to doubt her leadership or blame herself for getting them into this mess.

he took on the role as taylor's primary guardian at a young age right after taylor tells him she was hungry, and he's never regretted his decision once.

so frequently are the bleeding heart characters portrayed in media as someone emotionally intelligent/intuitive than logical-analytical, and so their worldview is often implied to be a consequence of naivety, childishness, or wishful thinking.

so for a character like tyler to be so explicitly compassionate and also explicitly logical, closed off, and guarded actively fights off against that stereotype and says yeah, empathy is actually a conscious choice. compassion is not a magical tool only wielded by those who wear their heart on their sleeves, it is a decision. it is an active one at that, because the character is only given two choices: either choose to offer or show empathy, or walk away from it.

and we constantly see tyler choosing the first option time and time again in the webtoon.

like, he's definitely far from being the most emotionally intelligent in the group (that title obviously belongs to tay), but i think people don't give him enough credit for always choosing to be empathic despite all that's happened to him.

What would Tyler and Logan’s fem names be? I mean Tyler’s genderbend name would probably be “Taylor”, but are there any others??? I feel like Tyler’s would be “Tyla” (if Taylor wasn’t an option), and Logan’s would be “Lane”?

There’s also the idea of Tyler and Taylor taking each other’s names, in the case that Taylor is transmasc, which I think is ADORABLE ,,, not mentioning the confusion it might cause LMAO

would anyone read a one shot of Tyler from SBG being incredibly too secretive about any and all injuries he gets after his death in the Phantom Realm? Like everyone is on edge regarding his health and Aiden's health after the whole debacle, so every chance he gets he just downplays his injuries in order to not worry them more (spoiler alert; it does the complete opposite.)

I decided to look up the names of all the sbg characters to see if they have meaning.

Ashlyn means “dream” or “vision”. Just like what her parents thought they saw at her birth, which could have inspired the name?! Just like what the facility tried to convince them that the phantom dimension was?! Just like her “auditory hallucinations”?!

Aiden means “energetic” or “passionate”. This could be how his parents saw him, given that the parents obviously named him. They only saw his mask without trying to see his soul. Aiden also means “fire”, but fire can burn out, no?

Taylor refers to the job as a “tailor” meaning to work with cloth. While this doesn’t seem to symbolic on the outside, what tailors did was mending and fixing the clothes and garments, much like how Taylor is the “fixer” of the group, always knowing what to say or do to get the group back on track, getting along, and working together.

Tyler means a few things. One of those is “house builder”, which symbolizes how he rebuilt the house after his dad died. Another one is “owner of a tavern” which basically means to own the house, symbolizing how he had to take over as the “man of the house” because his dad died, his mom was emotionally unavailable, and Taylor was too busy taking care of their mom.

Ben means “son”, or “youngest”, which could symbolize his timid nature as a kid. It could also symbolize how Shane and his group tried to “take him in” to teach him to fight, but he kept refusing. It could also symbolize how after he lost his voice and developed mental health issues, the people around him saw him as someone in need of protection or care.

Logan means "cove”, which means “sheltered or kept away”. This could symbolize how his family was in a criminal organization, but his grandparents kept him away from that seemingly after his parents died/left him. It could also symbolize how he never told his friends about this life, keeping them away from that.

I genuinely love it when people draw connections and come to conclusions that the author may or may not have originally intended, it’s so fucking cool seeing how other people’s brains work when it comes to dissecting stories and finding deeper meanings. Even if it can feel like a stretch at times, I don’t think that’s a bad thing! It’s super fun :]

And this is where headcanons and theories come from! Of course not all, but I digress

It makes the community feel more lively, how personal interpretation can change a character into something people love even more than the original source, while still loving and appreciating said original source
