El sábado 19 de Marzo, Colors of Costa Rica estuvo en la Feria de Diseño Gourmet Los Yoses con invitadas especiales. Una querida amiga estaba de cumpleaños, así que aprovechamos la iniciativa en los Yoses para disfrutar juntas de la cultura y diseño costarricense. Will estuvo “detrás de cámaras”, documentando el talento de los bailarines, artesanos y diseñadores, así como las risas que nunca faltan cuando salimos las chicas. Aquí la reseña que ambos escribimos del evento, espero la disfruten.
On Saturday March 19th, Colors of Costa Rica was at the Feria de Diseño Gourmet Los Yoses with special guests. A dear friend was celebrating her birthday, so we took the opportunity and attended the event in Los Yoses. Together we enjoyed Costa Rican designs and culture. Will was “behind cameras” documenting the talented dancers, craftsmen and designers, as well as the laughs that are never absent when girls go out. Here’s the review we both wrote about the event; hope you enjoy it.
Llegamos a medio baile. Ya SwingJosé se había apoderado de un espacio y de la atención de muchos. Con sus giros y movimientos rápidos, lograron devolver en el tiempo a toda su audiencia y trajeron alegría instantáneamente. Fue la primera vez que vimos a alguien bailar Lindy Hop en vivo y nos encantó, un estilo de baile más para la lista de “Por aprender”.
When we arrived the dance had already started, SwingJosé had taken over a space and everyone’s eyes were on them. With their rapid movements and spins, they managed to take their whole audience back in time and brought instant joy. It was the first time we saw someone dancing Lindy Hop in person and we loved it. Another dance style for the “To learn” list.
Afuera del parque, los bomberos compartían con los niños valiosa información sobre incendios y seguridad. El sol comenzaba a calentar, lo mejor era buscar sombra y así lo hicimos mientras esperábamos a las modelos.
Outside the park, firemen were sharing valuable information regarding fire and safety with the children. The sun was getting pretty hot so we looked for a shade and waited for our models.
Recorrimos el parque visitando cada puesto al menos dos veces, descubriendo cosas nuevas y conociendo a los expositores. Hicimos nuevos amigos, de quienes esperamos hablarles en próximas entradas del blog. Entre ellos, Mario y Alejandro de Loop y Dani y Mariano de FreakFlops.
We walked around the park, visiting each stand at least twice, discovering new things and talking to the exhibitors. We made new friends of whom we hope to tell you about in future posts. Among them: Mario and Alejandro from Loop and Dani and Mariano from FreakFlops.
Conversamos con Carlos Vargas, artista del taller Cuchillo de Palo. Habló con Will de historia y de los talleres que existieron alguna vez en Guadalupe de Cartago, de las familias dedicadas al arte textil y de cómo ya quedan pocas.
We chatted with Carlos Vargas, artist from the Cuchillo de Palo shop. He spoke with Will about history and the shops that once existed in Guadalupe of Cartago, he told him of families dedicated to the textile art and how only a few remain.
No nos cansamos de admirar el esfuerzo que conlleva una organización como la vista en la Feria de los Yoses. En verdad vale la pena disfrutar de estos espacios y conocer el arte de muchas personas que se esmeran por dar lo mejor de sí mismos.
We do not tire of admiring the effort and organization seen on the fair in los Yoses. It’s well worth attending this type of events and getting to know the art of many people that work hard to give their best.

Me puse en contacto con la diseñadora, Yuliana Montero y acordamos hacer una colaboración. Como sus diseños, Yuli transmite alegría. Es simpática, conversadora y conocedora de toda la industria de la moda. La idea de sus collares y pulseras es colorear tu día, romper el hielo al generar conversaciones y curiosidad por la elaboración.
I contacted the designer, Yuliana Montero and we agreed to meet for a collaboration. Like her designs, Yuli conveys joy. She is friendly, talkative and knows all about the fashion industry. The goal for her necklaces and bracelets is to color your day and break the ice by generating conversations and curiosity about the product elaboration.
La versatilidad de este tipo de accesorios es notoria, pueden combinarse con prendas formales y casuales. Unimos mis diseños y los de La Musa para crear dos outfits. En este post, les mostraremos el primero.

This outfit consists of a black dress with mesh and asymmetrical details on the chest area that could be used at the office, as well as on a date or night out with friends. We matched it with a metallic necklace that draws looks to its black and yellow pom poms.

Elegir los anillos es una parte importante del planeamiento de una boda. La idea es encontrar una joya duradera, cómoda y que refleje la personalidad de quien la va a llevar. Impegno se diferencia de otras joyerías al ofrecer a los novios, más que el producto final, la oportunidad de participar en la elaboración de sus anillos.
La idea de ser parte de un proceso tan creativo, nos encantó y los estilos que vimos en el catálogo, nos terminaron de convencer. Programamos la cita y viajamos al taller de Impegno en San Ramón.
Picking out your wedding bands is an important part of the wedding planning. The idea is to find a long lasting, comfortable piece of jewelry that reflects your personality.Impegno distinguishes itself from other jewelries by offering couples, more than the final product, the opportunity to participate in the making of their wedding bands.
We loved the idea of being part of such a creative process and the beautiful styles we saw on the catalogue, won us over. We scheduled an appointment and headed to Impegno’s shop in San Ramón.
La elaboración de un anillo es un proceso que sorprende, ver cómo se funde el oro, darle forma, limarlo. Definitivamente te abre los ojos a todo lo que hay detrás de la joya brillante que ves en un escaparate. Además es súper lindo hacer el anillo de tu novio (a), con tanto cuidado y detalle. El joyero, Esteban, nos explicó cada fase detalladamente y nos ayudó a perfeccionar todo para que los anillos quedaran impecables, pues claro, esto es un arte que no se aprende en un día. Por su lado, la fotógrafa, Lizandra, nos hizo sentir cómodos y logró fotos bellas y naturales.
The making of a ring is an amazing process, watching the gold melt, shaping and filing it. It definitely opens your eyes to what’s behind the shiny jewel displayed in a store window. Besides it’s really cute to put so much attention and detail into the ring you are making for your boyfriend/girlfriend. The jeweler, Esteban, explained each phase carefully and helped us perfect everything, so that our rings were flawless. This is art, and it takes more than a day to learn. Meanwhile the photographer, Lizandra, made us feel comfortable and achieved beautiful and natural shots.
Además de la parte técnica, nos encantó el ambiente familiar. Algunos de los parientes se acercaron para compartir una merienda, hablar y conocernos. El interés y apoyo que muestra la familia por el trabajo del taller, sin importar la cantidad de años que llevan haciendo esto, nos conmovió bastante. Un anillo es un símbolo de amor, es una promesa. En nuestro caso, será además el recordatorio de una mañana soleada en que fundimos oro y grabamos en nuestros anillos esos apodos que tanto nos decimos.
Besides the technical part, we loved the family environment. Some of the relatives gathered around to share a snack, talk and get to know us. The interest and support that the family shows for the work that’s done at the shop, regardless of the amount of years they have been doing this for, really moved us. A wedding band is a symbol of love, a promise. In our case, it will also be the reminder of a sunny morning when we melted gold and engraved our bands with those nicknames we call each other by.
Como consejo final, les diría que escojan como pareja pero también como personas individuales. Yo quería oro amarillo y Will quería oro blanco, así que elegimos un estilo en común y el metal que cada uno prefería. No es necesario que los anillos sean exactamente iguales, piensa en tu estilo y gusto. Si ya tienes anillo de compromiso, pruébatelo junto con el diseño que quieres para tu matrimonio. En mi opinión, es importante buscar que se complementen y no dejarte llevar por el que tenga la piedra más grande.
Ante todo, ¡experimenta y diviértete en tu búsqueda!
As a final advice, I would tell you to choose as a couple but also as an individual person. I wanted yellow gold and Will preferred white gold, so we chose a common style and the metal each one liked best. It’s not necessary for your bands to look exactly alike, think about your style and taste. If you already have your engagement ring, try it on with the design you would like for your band. Make sure they complement each other, instead of getting carried away by the one with the biggest rock.
Above all, experiment and have fun!
