On David Hilliard
Questions I asked myself as I looked at his photo book is, what unifies these photos together? What is the focus conceptually and literally? My favorite moments were when each image focuses on something a little differently, but when placed side by side, you get to see them all. Each moment of focus moves you along to each frame that unifies the entire piece. And in some ways, there isn’t a right or wrong way to move in the photo, and I think every person will focus on something a little differently.

But then I look at other images, where the sheer consequence of photo taking forces you to capture a moment in a second’s difference. Or the illusion of. And as a result, we see time passing in front of us. We see the slight subtle change in perspective and in the object of focus itself/themself. He is literally capturing moments and you see that when he forces the viewer to see them side by side.
