Cool news! I've put together a book of Homemade Halloween Activities & Crafts (volume 1), which includes the colouring in pictures, a few more activities I've designed/illustrated (like the haunted house board game in the photo), and crafts including instructions and templates for the witch fishing game, the black bat deocrations, the potion toss game, and more. It will be available as a cheap digital download through Etsy, with a portion of the proceeds in October going to my local playgroup. More news and a link coming soon - the book is still being reviewed by a few people before I offer it for sale.

Scenes from bugbear's birthday party: the black bats decorating the walls, with dead branches fortuitously flattened by being on the bottom of a pile when they were cut - thankyou neighbour for letting me have a pile of old tree and bush trimmings, as it also yeilded sticks for broomsticks, wands, and rods for the witch fishing game (all of which got carefully trimmed of twigs or thorns, and sanded down). Not to mention the little stump decorating the treats table, behind the jack o'lantern mandarins; it has a couple of battery-operated tealight candles blu-tacked to the flat stump tops.

Spiderweb shoes - done with a cheap pair of heels, and 3D fabric paint (also known as puff paint).

some more shapes, but more of a story - these are for a magnet fishing game. Two of the witch shapes are glued back-to-back at the end of a piece of string with a magnet stuck between them at the bottom. The string of course is attached to a stick. The other shapes - skull, spider, rat, butterfly, and flower, each have a paperclip on them. The witches are then used for 'fishing' for the other shapes, since the paperclips are attracted to the magnets. I'm making this for my son's upcoming birthday party (he wanted a witch party, so I'm doing a witch's school theme), so I'll let you know how it goes.

N.B. watch out for the magnets - they'll tend to stick to each other, so the kids doing the fishing will either have to take turns (make it a game of how many things you can get in a set amount of time, or they have to try and get all of a certain shape each) or use a large area for them to fish in so they don't get strings tangled/magnets stuck.

Also just an fyi, the skull shapes eyes were done with a single hole hole-punch.

the bat shape I use for decorations. There's probably a zillion and one bat shape templates out there, but I know that doesn't mean that any of them are just right for what you want, so one more doesn't matter :) The eye holes are made with a single hole hole-punch, and black wool/thread threaded through them to hang it from.

The background for all the skeleton figures. The skeletons were done as stickers, which the kids could then put on this background picture (the shaded one) where they like.

Zombear :)  He was an awesome custom job from a great lady who doesn't usually do customs, that I ordered fro my son's 4th birthday. Whenever we play with his toys and he demands that I do the voice for Zombear, I always give Zombear the action of occasionally chewing on one of his paws thoughfully when he doesn't have anything to say or do. Of course, when he does have something to say, it's always "Brrrraaaaiiiinnnnsssss?"

WHAT IS YOUR EARLIEST HUMAN MEMORY?

eating bread and butter and watching Monkey (although for some reason the show remains in my memory as Magic Monkey, it's definitely just Monkey.)

Colouring in! Hopefully, the quality will improve with time as I do more colouring in pages for future Halloweens.

a pattern and instructions for a simple stuffed bat, using felt (I love using felt, it doesn't need any hemming!)

You can use other stuff for eyes of course - buttons look cool, or stitch/glue on googly eyes, or even teddy bear stud eyes if you want to get fancy. 3D fabric paint (aka puff paint) can be used to just draw on eyes and a mouth with fangs.
