I'm gonna take a second to elaborate on why SDV Reddit, in particular, sucks ass bc they are Not being normal about the new marrageables announcement over there at all.
(Disclaimer ahead of time that I've been sure to only include points that I have seen multiple - sometimes a lot of multiple - people making, and not just lone heavily downvoted weirdos. All of these posts/comments always are in positives and reflected by many users. I do use a specific example as the most extreme version of one point I've seen though bc it was just completely baffling.)
First, the bizarre, intense, unchecked and vitriolic hatred for a small group of specific characters, namely Lewis, Pierre, Demetrius, Clint (oh boy) and sometimes, more rarely, Marnie. Not liking a character is understandable but people in the subs over there get... alarmingly intense about these ones, including making up stuff whole cloth, comparing them to irl people, and making entire non-joke hate subs for specific ones. It's very, very strange seeing people make up this narrative that, for example, Robin and Demetrius are in a horrible, loveless rocky marriage and that Demetrius is abusive toward his family but especially Sebastian. Hating on Pierre for like, wanting to make money to support his family but simultaneously taking a day off is also very common.
Second, this extremely strange narrative that all the marriage candidates (yes, all of them, including the ones you're thinking of right now as I clarify this) are Very Young and it is Problematic to be able to marry them. The weirdest and most extreme example i saw was one user claiming that, as a old and venerable (gasp) 30 year old woman, she felt "icky" if she thought about marrying any of these "babies" and was lamenting this meant she was stuck only having Krobus as a roommate. This is the most extreme version of that line of thought but not too far away from the general line of thought that "all" of the marriage candidates are roughly under 19.
Next, one i am especially annoyed about is this awful treatment of people who like and marry Shane, specifically? I've seen some nasty language out of people toward those Horrible Shane Likers, including but not limited to: "Pick-Mes" (???), 'Not Like Other Girls" (way to ignore gay/bi men and enbies), "Daddy Issues" (yikes), misogynists (because... i guess they think people who like Shane all hate Haley for being standoffish too??), and enabling abusive drunks. Yknow, for the horrible crime of [checks notes] liking the sad alcoholic video game character. Very cool!
Related to the above but this seems to be a broader Reddit Thing but theres also a lot of... projecting on the characters. Like im sorry that a jock was mean to you in high school so liking Alex is a Sin people must Repent For or whatever, but. This goes for a lot of characters.
...also some relatively minor gameplay related things that constantly come up and are probably a "them" problem, like getting mad at Marnie because they didn't manage their hay during winter and now its her day off and they have no hay for their animals. But.
I'm sure there are many more im forgetting but those are the ones that annoy me most. Lmao
