Random character dev in the form of a Q&A, long post under cut
Q: How did you all get into your preferred trades?
JINYING: Social services wanted me to do an extracurricular in school and I chose robotics. Didn't care for most of the robots part of it, but I liked putting them together. When I dropped out and aged out of foster care I picked up mechanic work to make money. Weaponsmithing just came natural to me, though. [Edgy enough to think weapons are cool.]
RITU: I enjoyed science my whole life, but found the formulaic side of it a bit difficult to follow in school. Eventually I gravitated to engineering as it felt far easier to break down into something suitable for my learning pace.
VITOR: I was a little too interested in old war nukes as a teenager. I got big into chemistry and electronics because it's really hard to get into explosives without giving yourself up to the FDU. Until we started getting access to documents at Dawn's discretion, I was mostly self-taught.
AZIZE: I wanted to be a knight as a kid. That's kind of the long and short of it. People are always surprised by my attention to detail and ability to restore and upkeep material, but I honestly think it's a really boring skill to have, even if I like doing it.
JO: The witch that adopted me wanted me to do sports like a real man, but I was a nerd and joined robotics instead. She didn't really like it, but didn't stop me as long as I had good grades and was "well-rounded". It helps that it pays a lot nowadays, I guess.
AIN: I rabbitholed into it. I spent a lot of time watching movies as a kid and wondering how realistic the hacking was, then spent my teen years on forums making webpages and learning how to mod my machine in my spare time. Kind of the logical conclusion to being way into computers before it was normal for everyone to have one.
VICKI: My older brother is an electrician and would take me out to jobs sometimes. I guess I'm impressionable, because I've never really doubted my career path since--I just find electricity dope and always wanted to climb a pylon to see how it worked.
EO: Used to carve wood in the forest whenever I needed to get away from home. Vicki thought woodworking and other shit like it would be good for me.
RAJES: (…I--I…like city planning and architecture.)
AUGGIE: Um--I kinda just wandered into it? Before I got stuck on the 1AA, my interest in this stuff was mostly just…modding my PocketPlay. But learning has been fun…
