The Duality of a Criminal Mastermind

Happy 21st anniversary of Sly 2: Band of Thieves' release, and/or as I like to observe today as ... Arpeggio's birthday!!

Hoo-wee this one was quite a bit of work for me, more so than last year's art I made for Arpeggio's birthday! Speaking of, I actually wanted to do this one last year to celebrate Sly 2's 20th anniversary as it features the whole Klaww Gang (sans Neyla, who does exist in my Birds of Crime AU but I don't consider her a Klaww Gang member even canonically), but I went with a different idea due to the passing of Sam Mowry, Arpeggio's voice actor last year.

Birds of Crime isset in the Sly Cooper universe, but the actual events of Sly 2 (including Arpeggio's plan to rebuild and take over Clockwerk's body) do not occur. This piece is meant to depict the dual nature of Arpeggio's life in my AU; he's a criminal mastermind and the leader of an international drug ring, but he's also a husband and father (Arpeggio and Samantha have three children, but only the eldest, Arpeggio Jr., is depicted here) and is highly devoted to the safety and comfort of his family, which unfortunately very much hinges on the secrecy of the Klaww Gang's operations. It's a tough balance to maintain, but he manages it well enough.

Once more, happy 21st anniversary to my favorite and most influential game ever, and the 21st anniversary of my favorite fictional character and love of my life being introduced to the world!

HAPPY ARPEGGIO'S BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!! To celebrate, here's a dumpy of illustrations from my 2018 fanfic Birds of a Feather! I have slowly been uploading chapters onto AO3 the last couple years (I keep forgetting and going months without uploading for reasons I don't understand lol brain so silly) and I plan to finally finish uploading them all this week or next! so I didn't include some of the final chapters' illustrations here just in the off-chance they include spoilers for the climax and ending.

You can read that whole disaster here! I'm still really proud of it after the years have passed, and I am delighted I did it all with Arpeggio, a villain that is wildly underrated and underutilized.

"It dawned on me recently that Arpeggio and Neyla were probably loosely inspired by Sylvester and Tweety (most likely the Mysteries version lol, which had Cool Cat cameos I forgot about) but perhaps also loosely Pinky and the Brain. Now I'm even more irked that we got so little of Arpeggio! If they ever make a TV series, I hope we get funny and tragic interactions that show how Neyla became worried Arpeggio wouldn't reward her in the end and how she learned the lesson of betrayal from him all too well, deciding to trust no one and to secretly strike first. I also want more of Arpeggio interacting with the KLAWW Gang, without it just being exposition."
