A toast to new friendships
"Master Lurien, the guests have begun to arrive."
Lurien was adding the finishing touches to his outfit, an elegant white tunic and frilled pants. At the sound of his assistant's voice he turns to them with a calm smile.
"Please escort them to the ballroom, I will arrive shortly," he says to the assistant who then promptly leaves after being given their orders. A sigh leaves Lurien, and he looks himself over in the mirror, adjusting the placement of the pendant on his chest. What if he wasn't dressed enough? Or it didn't look good after all? He better not be making a fool of himseā
"Oi vey Lu, stop overthinking," a voice cuts in, and Lurien whips around to see Hyacinth giving the other wizard a knowing smile. "You're fine, you look better than me."
Lurien rolls his eyes at that, and gives a small scoff.
"You're dressed in what you normally wear." Lu replies.
"And it looks nice. Nobody will notice! All eyes will be on you anyways, you're the host after all."
Lurien sighs, and spins in a circle for one last once-over of his outfit. Once getting the thumbs-up from their older sibling, steps into the empty hall. This part of the manor was blocked off to guests for Lurien's privacy (and sanity, as he didn't want people rifling through his things), and at the end of this hall were the two doors leading into the central atrium where the ball was being hosted.
Hyacinth had already moved into the main floor, seeing the many guests who arrived. It was more than they thought, and that made them smile. Lurien would be pleased to see so many guests in attendance.
The chatter of the many in the atrium was pretty loud, and Hyacinth was glad they had their earplugs in to damper the noise. However, their eyes stayed on the door at the top of the atrium staircase, where one of the attendants stood dutifully with a glass of sparkling juice. When Lurien entered the room and took it, the attendant rang a silver bell in their other hand to grab everyone's attention.
The ballroom falls silent, and Lurien swallows from nerves, but takes a breath to steel himself and he steps up to the banister, glass in hand. He gives a warm smile to the crowd, and begins to speak:
"Good evening everyone! I'm honored to see so many of you in attendance. For those I haven't met in person yet, my name is Lurien. I look forward to getting to know you all tonight.
The intent of this ball is to bring together members of our community and celebrate the arcaneā so I raise a glass in toast of new friendships forged and old ones strengthened," Lurien says as he raises his glass, and seeing others doing the same.
"To new friendships and broadening horizons, may you all enjoy the festivities tonight!"
With that, glasses are raised in toast and the music begins to playā the ball has officially begun.
