It’s spring!
today's bug thing is this worm plush!
no leaves, but plenty of eyes.
inspired by me spacing out on a long drive & staring at trees. this happened earlier this year, and birches ended up growing leaves before i finished the doll.
all branches & roots are made of metal wire + hot glue, which makes them poseable and also keeps them from snapping.
in a continuing battle to clean my desk of old projects, i finished this little troll with an abundance of teeth.
i was having a little bit of an art block > wanted to do something unusual to break it. this robot was inspired by going through my box of Trash With Good Shapes, wherein i found a plastic gachapon capsule i built it around.
the upper body is ball-jointed and glued to the capsule, but the legs are magnetic and can move freely along its surface. these robot projects sure do eat magnets, but i've been having fun experimenting.
please note the bottoms of the feet have paw pads.
most of the paints i used on this doll glow in the dark, which also makes her look ultra saturated in regular light. she turned out mega cute & i love her.
found this head & a pair of wings in my box of misprints & unused doll parts -> put them together and gave her a faceup as a chill little project.
cloudy lil sheep. once i get my 3d printer situation sorted out [hopefully long-term this time], she will receive a thundercloud twin.
void knight.
this started as a remix of my oak knight, and funnily enough i want to redo this one just like i did the oak knight. but i do like this prototype version as well, and since i had one printed, i decided to finish it.
also i put her on my shelf near the candle, and i think they should be girlfriends.
this thing has been rolling around on my desk since summer & i have painted it four or five times to try and get it right. finally succeeded, and here they are.
the bases the chest joints connect to are glued to the hourglass with epoxy, but otherwise the doll? sculpture? is strung with elastic, and i can take it apart like a regular bjd. as you can see, the moon & sun sides can either face in the same or separate directions.
the idea for the sculpt is legit just my brain getting stuck on the expression "hourglass waist" and immediately conjuring up this rpg boss.
this one started with me wanting to use an old handsoap bottle to make a spacesuit helmet. the helmet & oxygen tubes are attached with magnets -> are removeable. the neck has a ball joint, so the head can be turned easily, and the rest of the body has a metal wire armature. the head is sculpted by me, but all the other parts are salvaged from thrifted toys, or made of buttons & similar trinkets.
this is niniya, @posnakkel's character in a tabletop campaign i run. this is also mostly me showcasing their work; i sculpted and printed the doll, but the character design & all clothes and customization are by them, as well as some of these photos.
house on crow legs & the witch that lives inside.
it is important for my soul to sometimes make a little thing that is 100% whimsical, and i felt the need. i considered making the interior a mini diorama, but ended up just putting some fake moss in to make it a nest for the bee.
manifesting the end of summer with an experimental flower fairy.
i wanted to make a lantern fruit, but didn't really want to design something so delicate and try to 3d print it. i might do it in the future, but for this one, i just used metal wire, stickers and tissue paper.
may i offer you a crumb of nostalgia? or a refreshing sip of vinegar?
some friends & i ended up talking about animorphs a while ago. at some point in the conversation i was explaining andalites to my partner who never read the books, stopped & went ".........you know what i'm gonna do?" to which people responded with "make an andalite bjd?" and yes. they were absolutely correct.
this also finally motivated me to sculpt a centaur body with more joints. i'm very happy with the range of motion in this, especially how nicely it lies down. need to work a little bit on stability, but the poseability is where i want it.
a while ago, i watched little shop of horrors, which of course got me thinking about carnivorous plants. this one is maybe a little less of a world-conqueror than audrey, but who knows. definitely wants a bite of your sandwich, and maybe of your finger.
heads sculpted by me, the arms and tentacles are monster high parts. everything except the tentacles is bendable & poseable.
the white bishop.
i wanted to make a chess piece bjd, but not go directly for the queen/king. the shape of the bishop was interesting, so i picked that one. the original intention was to contrast it with a black rook, but i want to tweak the proportions before i print any more pieces, so this prototype will remain unique. also i accidentally printed it way too large, which is not super feasible if i end up whole-assing this concept and making a full bjd chess set & board.
