Don’t hug me, I’m dysphoric
Toni’s alarm went off thirty minutes ago, his bus left ten minutes ago, and he would be in his school in twenty minutes, if he wasn’t crying in his bed.
He didn’t feel like going to class that morning, face the terrifying ordeal of being known and deadnamed by his classmates. So he stayed in bed, hoping that no one would notice that he skipped class.
He was almost about to fall asleep again too when his bedroom door opened and Grace walked in.
- @comic-grace-hargreeves-official -
"Sweetheart? You missed your bus, are you sick?"
“Dysphoric.” he mumbled from underneath his blanket.
She sighed and sat down on his bed next to him. "I'm sorry, Toni. If it helps, I think you look very masculine."
He shook his head. “Read week.”
Grace squeezed his hand. "Well I don't know what that's like, but I'll do everything I can to help you."
“Hot water bottle and green tea with lemon?”
She smiled and stood up. "Of course, darling. I'll be right back."
“Thanks grandma.”
Grace came back a few minutes later with a hot water bottle and the tea, setting them down on the bedside table.
Toni took the hot water bottle and pulled it under the blanket, placing it on his lower abdomen. “Where’s my laptop?”
"I think you left it downstairs when you were doing homework."
“Could you please bring it up?”
"Of course, sweetie." She smiled and left before coming back and setting the laptop on his bed.
He opened it. “Wanna watch She-Ra with me?”
Grace sat down next to her grandson. "What's She-Ra?"
“It’s an animated show on Netflix that I really like.”
"Would you like me to watch it with you?"
“Yes.”
"Then I will." She smoothed her skirt.
Toni sat up against his headboard.
Grace moved a pillow behind him. "Leaning against a hard surface can hurt you, especially when you're already in pain."
“Mom bot.” Toni mumbled with a smile as he opened Netflix.
"It was my job to take care of your father and now it's my job to take care of you."
“What was he like?”
"Chaotic, lovely, absolutely precious. Just like you."
“I don’t do drugs...”
"Good." She smiled and squeezed his hand.
“And I can draw better than him.”
"You're very talented."
