Day 9: Grimwater landscape concept (morning)
Day 8: concept (Blue Whale pub at night)
Day 7: Blue Whale pub concept indoors
Day 6: Blue Whale pub concept
It ’s one of the most important location four our future comic book. Blue Whale Pup is the social centre of Grimwater, our base town. Grimwater is located in the middle of wastelands. It ‘s the only town for miles. Grimwater is surrounded by almost thirty army bases, posts and the Military Academy’s departments. There are only two times of the day - early morning and dark night. When the night comes, there is no evening, the sun doesn’t even move during the day. It looks like when it ’s midnight, the light just turns off. The same happens in mornings. The town was originally built as one of many temporary camps, but then the Civil War begun. After five dreadful years of the war they didn’t move. Grimwater became the only camp that somehow survived. The townfolk still keep the secret hope to escape from here.
Day 6: the smuggler’s common room concept
an early version according to our plot, our characters live in underground apartment connected with system of sectret tonnels. They have a common room, and every character have there a some sort of personal space, a corner. There are Rony’s and Davy’s corners. Rony has a comfy chair where he sits all day pretending to do nothing, in contrast to Davy’s place, including only desk and a map
Day 5: development of “the deserter” character
We didn’t change him much, though we sketched his profile, it was important for this character to have sharp, expressive features
Day 4: (b) main storyline, at last, and what our world is gonna be like
A bit like this. Our main characters live on the alternative planet. It’s hard to explain, but long story short: Long long ago on Earth lived a nation so advanced that their scientist soon were able to invent the portal. Not a portal between universes or something, but a portal to some kind of fake dimension. If they had time to develop that technology they could travel between real worlds as well. But it wasn’t meant to be. One day they find out that a meteor is going to fall and destroy the Earth. The government decided to use the portal technology to send the entire population to the fake dimension so they can wait there until the meteor falls. Then they’ll come back to Earth and all will be saved. Sadly, the portal technology was very new and incomlete, but there wasn’t any other choice. The leading group of scientist create a fake dimension, copying the Earth and they create some sort of portal blast covering all the planet. Only 40 persent of the population survived. The scientists and governmet were aware of that risk, but still - meteor would kill them all. Soon they tried to come back to the Earth. Turned out that the timeline on Earth is very different than the timeline in the fake dimension - they missed two thousand years while travelling through the portal. And now the whole Earth was fulled with humans - different humans. There wasn’t a place for them anymore. The only way was to stay in the fake dimension and build the world from the beginning. The fake dimension was supposed to copy the earth in every aspect. There is a huge, huge defect of the new planet. For creating the fake copy dimension the leading scientist uploaded to the portal device all his knowlledge, thoughts and emotions about the Earth he had. And no one can be objective, especially that man. So as a result we have a imperfect strange copy of the Earth. Some lands are quite correct, it depends on his feelings and knowledge. But mostly it’s a broken world. Some lands have nothing in common with the late earth - the scientist’s experiences made them a waste of space, filled with his anger, or ignorance, or sadness. For example, usually people remembered the Grimwater village as peaceful place. But for the scientist it’ s nothing but a burning hell filled with people’s screams that never ends. Because his knowledge of that place based on one certain time he ‘ve seen this place. So you can imagine what the rest of the planet may look like.
Day 4: concept of the peacemaker
Character description: “ He has a devil-may-care attitude and a ridiculously big comfy chair. He tries to look as lazy as it can be, though he is a hardworker. In every aspect he is the complete contrast to the first one. He doesn’t talk a lot, but when he does - he usually wins the discussion with his dry wit. He has a soft, cheerful temper and truly kind - which is always cunfused with weakness by some people. He has no great combat skills , but his words sometimes are far more effective. “ This is an early version, we gotta change a lot in him. So far we named him Rony. He is the youngest man in the group, about 24-25, and he has open and honest look so nobody can imagine he’s a smuggler. While living on another planet he is a collector of human stuff, very much like the Little Mermaid. He have no sense of propotion when it comes to decorating his personal space with flashlights, carpets, clolors, lots and lots of weird things. We’ll change his clothes, we decided to get him more hipster look, this one is too comfy.
Day 3 (b) concept of the deserter
Character description: “Soldier from top to toe. He was the general in the civil war, but something made him reconsider all his beliefs. Still he has a certain rigidness. He’s one of these people who will do literally anything to make things right - and his decisions often come with a great cost. He has his own idea of kindness. This is exactly what makes him one of the most dangerous warrior their world has ever seen.” David bowie was an inspiration for this charater. We decided the deserter’s face ’ll be covered in scars and burns, and he must have a sharp attentive look. Still his elegance makes him rather attractive in a special sort of way. He’s a smoker, also his main feature is the military posture. The deserter is always tensed and focused. He’s a brilliant strategist.
Day 3: (a) concept of “the deserter”
Character description: “Soldier from top to toe. He was the general in the civil war, but something made him reconsider all his beliefs. Still he has a certain rigidness. He’s one of these people who will do literally anything to make things right - and his decisions often come with a great cost. He has his own idea of kindness. This is exactly what makes him one of the most dangerous warrior their world has ever seen.”
Day 2: (b)concept art of “the cadet”
“The cadet. Came last to the group, and did it by mistake. She is unbelievable careless and clumsy, and her luck became a legend. She is one of these people who can’t walk through the desert without unintentionally running into the oasis and drowning in it. The words “fear” and “caution” aren’t familiar to her. “ The girls name is Krita. She is a runaway cadet, so she may spend three years of prison if she’ll get caught. She is quite bony, her appearance and manners (actually the lack of any manners) make her a bit boyish. She is nineteen, but looks much younger.
Day 2: (a)concept art of “the scientist”
“The scientist. He’s able to build a portal between Earth and their new world in which their small group now survives. He is a genius. And what characterize him most - he is absently kind, which means he ’s sometimes blind and unobservant when it comes to people. He is devoted to everyone in the group, but he rarely understands them.” For now his name is Kichi. We decided to make him middle aged, quite young, about fourty six, despite that odd old crazy professor stereotype. He wears layers of clothes, lots and lots of pockets and belts. He has a southern appearance. Also he is tired. It seems he has the world on his shouldres. He’s reflectiveand ofen doesn’t pay any attention to the others. There’s a certain lack of sleep. At the same time he ofen became overexciterd, too enthusiastic.
Day 1: characters first, plot will come along, probs
Well we would be glad to say that at first we came up with the main idea, the basic storyline etc, but in fact we decided to think about main characters. It’s unprofessional, but whatever - we thought. Soon we got an idea of five main characters - the group of runaway smugglers. There’s no certain leader in it, though at least two of them consider themselves as the boss. The first one is the deserter. Soldier from top to toe. He was the general in the civil war, but something made him reconsider all his beliefs. Still he has a certain rigidness. He’s one of these people who will do literally anything to make things right - and his decisions often come with a great cost. He has his own idea of kindness. This is exactly what makes him one of the most dangerous warrior their world has ever seen. The second one is the scientist. He’s able to build a portal between Earth and their new world in which their small group now survives. He is a genius. And what characterize him most - he is absently kind, which means he ’s sometimes blind and unobservant when it comes to people. He is devoted to everyone in the group, but he rarely understands them. The third one is the peacemaker. He has a devil-may-care attitude and a ridiculously big comfy chair. The fourth one is the healer. She is a Wendy for her three Lost Boys. She is calm and patient. Everyone in the group consider her as their elder sister. She once had her own family and husband, but nowadays she never mention it. She feels like she‘s everyone’s mother and that make her feel lonely and unprotected sometimes, but she never admit it even to herself. She is also a dangerous fighter - her compassionate nature is her strength and weakness at the same time. The fifth one is the cadet. Came last to the group, and did it by mistake. She is unbelievable careless and clumsy, and her luck became a legend. She is one of these people who can’t walk through the desert without unintentionally running into the oasis and drowning in it. The words “fear” and “caution” aren’t familiar to her.
